Why is evil called good and the good-evil?

Many times I asked myself the question: why evil is presented as a good, and good as evil. That is why I wanted to answer the question that was placed on the Christian Moldova website. Below you can read the question:

Peace! I have a question. Why is the evil being promoted nowadays and people think it is good? If you are right and doing well, everyone seems suspicious. Why is this a mess?

The answer to this subject can be found very clearly and well explained by the apostle Paul in his epistle to the Romans. In chapter 1, after Paul says that “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” In verse 22, Paul writes of these people as follows:

Professing to be wise, they became fools,  and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.(Romans 1:22-25)(NASB)

So, these people first suppress the truth of God in their hearts and minds; then they are professed to be wise. What are they doing now? They exchange the truth into a lie. These people certainly believe they are wise, but in reality, they became fools. They rejected God, and because of this the Lord gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity.

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; (Romans 1:28-31)(NASB)

The phrase that is repeated in chapter 1 is “God gave them over” The Lord gave them over to a depraved mind not because He does not care about them, but because they first gave God over. Now their behavior is the result of their separation of God. They not only name evil good, but they find good the ones who do the same as they do.  This is also the answer to your question. People who have turned against God, who suppressed His truth, can not promote the truth, but exchanged it into a lie. This is their nature, and unfortunately, this is the society of our days. The fact that these people are skeptical of you when you do good and you are suspected of bad things doesn’t characterize you but them. Therefore, continue to do well, allow the truth of God to guide your life, and don’t suppress it.

I give you the same exhortation that Paul gave to Timothy before his death:

”I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.(2 Timothy 4:1-4)(NASB)”

At this time, our primary calling is to preach the Word, in season and out of season, even when people turn their ears away from the truth.

May God help us!
