Why can you come to God only through Jesus Christ?

”Imagine a large circle and inside it several circles that get smaller and smaller as you approach the middle. God is in the center of the circle. Anyone from any angle of the circle can reach the center. The more good deeds you do, the closer you get to God. The main thing is your good deeds, but what religion you belong to, or what faith you have, that matters less, anyway in the end you will reach God…?” A Muslim friend was trying to explain this to me. His explanation sounds interesting, but is it true?

Before His death on the cross for the sins of mankind, the Lord Jesus told His disciples that He was going to the Father to prepare a place for each of them. Then Thomas, one of the disciples, asked Him how he could know the way to heaven? Jesus answered,

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6, NASB)

Jesus Christ is the way

Our sins put a dividing wall between us and God. In his sin, man is totally separated from God and would seem to have no chance of reaching God. Yet God, in His love, has prepared a way for us. Who is this way?

And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, NASB)

The name of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only Name under heaven in the Universe in which we can receive salvation.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh… (Hebrews 10:19-20,NASB)

The tent of meeting, the place where the people of Israel met with God, was divided into two parts. The Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. These two parts were separated by a very thick curtain. In the second part of the tent, in the Most Holy Place, entered only once a year the high priest, with the blood of goats. The blood was offered as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of the whole people. As a result, sins were only covered, but man’s mind and heart remained sinful.

What was to be done? The curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place was yet another proof that our sin put up a dividing wall between us and God, it proved that man in his sinful state could not enter the Kingdom of God. But when our Great Savior died on the cross of Golgotha as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of all mankind, at that moment something very important happened to the curtain in the middle! It was 10 cm thick –12 pairs of horses, if they had pulled it from both sides, could not have broken it. But when the Lord Jesus gave up the ghost, the curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom. This meant that Jesus’ sacrifice opened this new and living way for us to reach Heavenly Father. We no longer see in the Bible God telling us about another way, about another name, by which we could reach His presence.

Jesus Christ is the truth

The world today is desperately looking for the truth. You may have heard many say, “I want to go to heaven, but with so many beliefs and religions, I’m very confused, I don’t know who has the truth.” Jesus, as I quoted above, said of Himself, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” You do not have to look for the truth elsewhere, He is the pure Truth. Do not seek the truth in men, seek it in the Lord Jesus and He will be revealed to you. But how can you know and recognize this truth?

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. (John 17:17. NASB)

The word of God is the truth. The Gospel of John 1:1, and v. 14 says that the Lord Jesus is the Word. He is the Word of truth, who sanctifies us and leads us on a new, living and true path, which leads to the Father God. By studying God’s Word, the Bible, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Jesus Christ is the life

For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. (John 5:21, NASB)

For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself. ( John 5:26, NASB)

The Lord Jesus Christ has life in Himself and He can give it to whomever He wants and take it from whomever He wills. First of all, He is part of a beautiful life with Him here on earth.

I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10, NASB)

Then He promises us Eternal Life with Him, the Father God and the Holy Spirit, up there.

The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:36, NASB)

My dear reader, let me ask you something. What is the path you are taking today? By what methods do you want to reach God? Do you trust your deeds, your religion, or are you looking to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus?

Last night I shared the Gospel with a man. When I told him that I believed in the Lord Jesus, he asked me, “But what are you, Adventist, Jehovah’s Witnesses, what? There are so many religions and beliefs that you no longer know which are true and which are not?” Perhaps you are still wondering today where is the Truth in which you must believe? Or what is the path to follow? Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. Believe in Him who is the True God from the True God, and so you will gain Eternal Life.

May God bless you all to choose to walk the only Way that leads to Him, the Lord Jesus Christ. Choose to know and believe the Truth, the Lord Jesus Christ. Take part in the Life that the Lord Jesus gives!
