Recently I have received a comment on the article How to propose marriage to a girl?
I was searching the answer to this subject for a long time. Because I didn’t know how to make the first step to propose marriage to a girl. I feel that I can’t but marry a girl once, but I don’t like any girl yet how it is described at point 1. I have one more question – what is the best age for a guy to marry? I have heard from a Christian widow that it is not good to marry until you are 27 years old – because the guy is not serious and mature yet. Maybe not all are this way and some may marry until this age – as regards to me, I think that I am not yet mature, because I am unserious and naive for many times. Maybe for me it is better to think about marriage not earlier than 27 years old. Though, I would like to know what is the best age. (Adrian)
I would like to answer to this question in this article – What is the best age to marry?
1.Respect the legislation of your country regarding to the age of marriage. Each world state has established a law which says the age for marriage and usually, men are to be elder than women when they marry. This is so, not necessary because men become “mature” harder, but because they have the responsability to take care materially of his wife and children, to take decisions and it is waited for maturity. For example, in our country, the Republic of Moldova, by law, guys are allowed to marry at the age of 18 and girls at 17. People who labored this law, assumed that at such an age a man must be able to provide for his family. In the Ancient Sparta, men were not allowed to marry until they reached the age of 30 years old.
2.God didn’t assign a specific age for marriage in the Holy Scriptures. Even if God is very specific in the laws he had given to the people of Israel – there is no law that assigns the age of marriage. Or, at least, I have not found such an age. Nevertheless, God relates to us the age when some of the men of faith married.
- Moses, was over 40 years old when he married, because the Book of Acts tells us tha Moses “but when he was approaching the age of forty, it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel.” (Acts 7:23)(NASB). Only after this he had to run to Midian and there he married the daughter of Jethro, the priest of Midian.
- Joseph “was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt.” (Genesis 46:46)(NASB). Only after this Pharaoph “gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, as his wife.” (Genesis 46:45)(NASB)
- Isaac “was forty years old when he took Rebekah to be his wife.”(Genesis 25:20)(NASB)
3. You can not marry until you develop your capability and power to provide for your wife and children. Regrettably, many young men don’t understand this thing, that each man has a specific capability to protect and to provide and that he has to develop this capability. The Bible tells us that “if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever”(1 Timothy 5:8)(NASB). What I call the capability to provide, it is called here “to provide for his own” and that every man needs to develop this capability all his life. Attention, it is not meant amount of money that one dreams to receive by wonder in a night, or that he will have such a business and will get rich quickly. No, the Word of God doesn’t mean this at all. The capabilty to provide is the capability to work so that you can gain and provide for your household and to protect them. For this, beloved, don’t look for something to win quickly a big amount of money that you will not know how to administer, but go to make a speciality of something, o job, a craft. Only then, you will be able to settle down for life.
May God bless you to be a mature man in attitude and thinking, so that you will be able to found a family.
