Is it a sin to go to the cinema?

Question:

Is it a sin to go to the cinema?

Is it a sin to go to cinema

The Word of God tells us that all things are permitted, but not all are helpul for us (1 Cor.6:12). It is not a sin to go to gthe cinema, and I don’t think that it matters so much if you go to cinema or not, it is more important what you watch at the cinema or at home in front of TV or on the computer. Both at the cinema and on TV, imorality, violence and blasphemy are increasingly promoted on a very large scale in recent years. Taken together these things aim at changing the morality and the mind of the current generation not for the better, but for the worse. The moral degradation of our society is a visible fact seen by anyone who analyzes its course. The morals of the whole society in general, and of each person individually is the target of the fierce attacks of the non-values. Thus the morality of a person should come out of the attitude of his heart which must be protected continuously.

Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life

Put away from you a deceitful mouth
And put devious speech far from you.ve
Let your eyes look directly ahead
And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.
Watch the path of your feet
And all your ways will be established.
Do not turn to the right nor to the left;
Turn your foot from evil

The heart is the starting point of all activities of life and determines its course. Words and actions flow from people`s heart. The same thing is told by Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew  15:19-20. That’s why the heart must be protected with much attention and care.

How can I protect my heart?

The biblical advice is very simple. The eye is the filter of the heart. Our Lord Jesus Christ warns us very clearly in the Sermon on the Mount about the importance of information we get through our eyes:

If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. (Matthew 5:9)

Imagination and free choice are a gift from God, but when the imagination is fueled by corrupt and immoral information it becomes corrupted. All sins begin with imagination. Thus what fuels the imagination of a true Christian is of great importance when we consider the standards of God’s kingdom. Information filtering is a daily necessity, not just an occasional choice.

The apostle Paul is very clear in his call:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds inChrist Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

A Christian must continually be concerned about his moral and spiritual nourishment. This involves focusing on all good and perfect thoughts (v.8) and practicing them in everyday life.

It is true that the list of pure moral videos is not a long one. You have to read carefully the critique of a movie in order to make a good choice. Christian inspirational films that are worth watching are:
