Without faith in God life has no meaning

Question:

A girl from my high school left a note with the message: “I do not believe in God anymore” and then committed suicide. She was only 18 years old. What do you think about this? I think she lost the last hope, and realized that life is pointless without God and decided to take her life. It is true that life is a continuous struggle, that people are increasingly bad and indifferent, that loneliness is difficult, but this does not mean that life is not worth living because it is beautiful both with good and bad things that it has. I always admire people with strong faith in God because they are optimistic, healthier, they radiate happiness and are more peaceful. I do not know what makes them so? I wish to be so, but unfortunately I do not think I have a chance. I watched documentaries (ex. “Zeitgeist”, or “Secret of life on earth”), and I no longer believe in God. If you know a documentary that provides evidence for the existence of God, please let me know.

Yes, I also think that disbelief and disappointment have brought this girl to total despair and suicide. When people lose faith in God life no longer makes sense for them because God has put eternity in the human heart and created man for His glory. Without this purpose man can not find a direction worthy of life, no matter how much he insists. The Bible tells about people who have ruined their relationship with God and this has led them to commit suicide.

Why true Christians are always full of life?

Because we have faith in God and by faith we received from Him peace, joy in tribulation, hope and divine love that was poured into our hearts.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:1-5)(NASB)

How to grow your faith in God?

The Bible tells of a rich man who lived a life of waste, sin, indifference to others and unbelief. When he got to Hades and saw that it was a reality, the rich man said

“Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house– for I have five brothers–in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.‘” (Luke 16:27-31)(NASB)

“Moses and the prophets” was a way to call the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament. So Abraham said a great truth, namely that if someone does not believe what is written in God’s Word, he will try to find any wrong interpretation as to not believe even when someone raises from the dead. Therefore, do not look for any documentary, but take the Bible and start studying it. Start from the New Testament and after having read it in its entirety read the Old Testament too. Before you read, pray and ask God to give you a better understanding of His word through the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel of John it says:

Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20:30-31)(NASB)

Study the Bible to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing to have eternal life in His name.

I recommend you get the Bible study materials according to the inductive method because they will help enormously to understand the message of the Holy Scripture. Start studying ”God, are you there?” course, which is a profound study of the Gospel of John.

Find a living church where the priest or the pastor preaches healthy doctrine from the Holy Scriptures and lives according to the teaching he is giving others.

Search a Bible study group and get involved. There you will find not only answers to the questions you have, but also fellowship with true Christians, who want to fulfill God’s will in their lives.
