Why do pupils behave cruelly with their classmates?

I was troubled when I watched a video that showed how some young women (pupils) from Balti maltreated one of their classmates, beat her and put out the cigar by her head. Based on this situation, I want to tell my opinion about the reasons that led and continue to lead to violence among young people.

Because those who are evil are honored

It is awful what happens and this shows a cruelty that surpasses every limit and human understanding. What else should we expect from these pupils if they show such cruelty and arrogance now? The saddest thing is that at the graduation one of these very cruel and violent aggressors had a red ribbon, that showed she was appreciated by the whole school. When the reporter wanted to ask her a question, this young woman turned her back in a very arrogant way and replied: “Get out of my sight!”. And then the teacher said that such kind of behavior was not encouraged in their school? Why then murderers as this young woman are set as an example for others?

Because witnesses do not intervene

This is another shocking thing. Witnesses chose to film the image than to intervene and draw out that young woman from that great accident. Here is the teaching given by the Lord Jesus in this regard:

One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, ” ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:35–40)(NASB)

How is it possible in a Christian nation to mock a person in such a way and how can all other so-called Christians be so indifferent and not intervene? The Lord Jesus also said:

In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)(NASB)

Which of these witnesses would like to be filmed by others when they are in such kind of situations and being a victim, to know that no one intervenes for you? Why then did they do this? Don’t act this way, dear reader. Don’t ever do this and don’t stay indifferent about those who are in misfortune. Be a courageous man and run to protect and to fight for their life and dignity.

Because violence is promoted methodically

It is evident that pupils are not directly taught violence in school. And the teacher was right when she told that violence is taught by mass-media (TV). Children, teengers and young people are not taught true values, but how to be “cool” through violence, sexual immorality and other mean things. That’s why, it is important for all inhabitants of the country to be aware of this great danger and to demand the revision of violent and immoral programmes on TV from authorities. But it is important that parents and teachers would teach children how to make difference between good and evil and how to protect their mind from this bad influence, that will affect their lives, as God says in the Holy Scriptures:

Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs of Solomon 4:23)(NASB)

Because violence is not punished

After these young girls commited such a crime, after they abased and made such a grave attempt on a girl’s honor and health, after the victim was put in hospital having a mental shock, the aggressors got a low grade for their behavior and that was all, so that they may not have problems when they graduate. These girls were not punished according to the evil they had done, that’s why, they were encouraged to do greater evil, to abase and to mock others. And not only they, but many other young people will follow up their example. The aggressors “risk 100 lei penalty”, and the girl who is already 16 years old “if she is guilty she will pay 1000 lei”. Is it the price for human dignity? This money will not even be enough to buy the necessary medicines to recover the victim.

What shall we do to stop violence in school?

  1. When such cases take place, let them be punished properly, but not overlook them.

  2. We shall not honor the evil.

  3. We shall ask the authorities and TV channels to revise the programmes and to eliminate violence and sexual immorality.

  4. When we are witness such king of incidents, we have to intervene always and protect the human dignity and to secure other’s life and health.
