Othniel was the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, and so he was a direct cousin ​​to Achsah, for whom he fought to have her as his wife. Caleb was a very faithful and valiant man and if it had been a violation of God’s commandments, he would not have allowed Othniel’s marriage to Achsah. But he gave Achsah as his wife to Othniel.
