Keeping Sunday is not a slaughter of the Sabbath is not violating of the Sabbath

We have repeatedly asked questions about the origin, essence and keeping the Sabbath, and the subject has been approached in many articles, shows and sermons. However, I found it important to answer this question again:

If the Sabbath was not valid after the death of Jesus, why in Revelation 14:12 it is said that the saints who are saved are those who have kept the commandments of Jesus? Did they keep only 9 commandments?

In Revelation 14:12 there is no mention of Sabbath, and we can not conclude that what was written here refer only to the Decalogue (The Ten Commandments). The text says:

Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.” (Revelation 14:12)

It is wrong, however, to believe that Christians who keep Sunday as a day of rest and worship, do not keep the Sabbath. Sabbath means rest or cease to work, and the significance of this special day, Paul wrote to the Christians of the city of Colose, who were not of Jewish origin, but Gentiles: pagans who did not know and did not keep the Sabbath until they believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Here is what Paul wrote:

Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17)(NASB)

As you see, the Sabbath was the shadow of what is to come that showed to the Lord Jesus Christ. That is why our Lord was deliberately breaking the Sabbath, and it infuriated the Pharisees of those days, for they did not understand the meaning of this day. They did not understand just as today there are still some people who do not understand that the Sabbath was a shadow indicating the rest that can only be offered in the Lord Jesus Christ. Only the Lord Jesus can give us the true rest, as He said:

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)(NASB)

Those of His time accused him of breaking the Sabbath, but they did not understand that He, Jesus Himself, was the main person to whom the Sabbath indicated, for He alone offers the true rest.

We, Christians, have truly fulfilled the Sabbath when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Through the new birth we entered the true rest that many of those who kept the Sabbath did not find without believing in Christ and without experiencing the birth again.

So, never blame a true Christian who keeps Sunday, as if it were one that does not keep the Sabbath day. May God help every man to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is “the Lord of the Sabbath”, that is, the Lord of Rest and without whom no one will enter into the true rest of God. And those who received Him in the heart and became disciples, together with the Holy Spirit they also received the peace of God and are already in this rest, for the true rest is in their hearts.

I invite you to read the follwoing articles on this subject:

May God bless you and help you enter the true rest of God that is offered by the Lord Jesus Christ and not the keeping of a day.
