Halloween or Golden Autumn?

Today evening I was visited by a group of three boys, who carried with them a scarecrow made of pumpkin with a candle inside. When they were still at the gate, they asked if we received the Golden Autumn.I realized what it was about, but I invited the boys into the house to know better what they were doing and what message they brought.After they entered the house, everyone began to say in chorus: “Halloween, Halloween , Halloween … “.They kept saying this and hoped that I would stop them, but they saw that I waited from them to say something else, and because they did not have what to say, they stopped.

I recognized them, because they had visited us at Christmas and then, at Easter. And now they came just because we received them well then. I asked them what kind of holiday was Halloween because I hadn’t celebrated it in my childhood. They said that Golden Autumn was celebrated. And I told them that it was not so, but it was a pagan and evil holiday, when people without God and who did not know the Bible celebrated the evil spirits.That’s why they did all kinds of scarecrows and bloody scary things, skeletons, black cats, etc.

I asked the children if they were Christians and they answered affirmatively. Then, I told them that the Lord Jesus did not allow us to serve two masters and He said:

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other You cannot serve God and wealth. (Matthew 6:24)(NASB)

When I asked them, the children told me that everyone had a Bible at home.Some of them had been given Bibles when they had visited us at Christmas or Easter.Not to leave them empty-handed, I gave them some beautiful apples with which God blessed us this golden autumn, and we urged them to read the Bible and to serve only the Lord Jesus.

I decided to share all this happened because they are growing trends among young people to take various pagan celebrations of other countries and to revive those of Geto-Dacians. It is very important for us to know the truth of the Gospel and believe in the Lord Jesus to tell people who take these pagan practices without discernment. Most times, they do it out if naivete and we have the duty to show them the truth and to keep them from the dangers of idolatry and occultism.
