Do not give up faith when loved ones die

Question:

May the Lord bless you, I’m glad I found you. I have a question. I prayed for 2 years for my 4-year-old grandson to be healed by the Lord of a brain tumor. He underwent 3 interventions and still did not heal. He died after 2 years of suffering. The child’s father is my son and he has given up the faith. His wife, my wife and I are on the last hundred meters and we don’t know what to believe.

I am saddened to hear about the pain you have had to go through as a family and where you are now, especially your son and daughter-in-law. I pray that God will give you the right words to show them an example of faith, as well, and let them run to God and find comfort in Him.

We are human beings and our understanding is very limited. What could Job know about why his children died and all the other bad things that happened? He put his trust in God and did not give up the faith. We also must trust in God, for it is written:

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28 NASB)

Right now neither you nor your children can see that good, but surely when we appear before God we will see the good that has been pursued by God through the illness and death of this child, and we will glorify Him for it. Life on this earth is “just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away” as St. James says. Stay strong in the faith to meet the child and spend eternity with him. Fear to give up the faith, for in this way you will be separated not only from the child, but from the Lord Jesus and God. Stay strong in the faith.
