it is the reading, meditating on and application of gods word in our lives that provides the opportunity for finding purpose, truth and salvation. Not merely reading it. The history of the bible shows it is the most printed book in the last 600 years but not the most widely read, sadly. Religious dogma has replaced truth of gods word, ritual and tradition. So obtain a good translation, read and seek to understand by letting the bible explain itself. Review key things because you will begin to understand who we are, why we need help and the consequences of not reaching out for that help now. Read, listen to gods word, obey and apply his principles then you will be blessed

I wonder, if we can see signs of the Apocalypse coming, not only in social turmoil but in the natural world's decadence, Why is the church still encouraging women to have children? If we see millions of children without homes, How can it be good to encourage people to reproduce instead of adopting?

IS PRAYING TO DEAD PEOPLE A SIN? Is it a sin to pray to the Virgin Mary and other dead saints? Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Go Satan! For it is written,' "You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.' " Praying to any person or anything is worship. WORSHIP DEFINED: To revere, stressing the feeling of awe or devotion. Adoring reverence or regard. Any worship of anyone or anything other than God is sin. The Virgin Mary is not God nor does she have the power to grant petitions of prayer. If men could pray to dead saints and get them answered, then why not pray to saint Moses, saint John The Baptist, saint Abraham, saint Job, saint Enoch, saint The Thief on The Cross or any other dead saint? Dead people cannot hear your prayers and if they could they would not have the power to answer them. Prayer is worship and only God deserves our worship. God knows our every thought. God is aware of every sin we commit. God knows our every move. God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. Those are the attributes of God and what you would need in order to answer prayer. Neither the Virgin Mary, Moses, John The Baptist nor any other dead saint has the attributes of God. They cannot hear you nor can they answer YOUR PRAYERS. YES, TO PRAY TO ANYONE OTHER THAN GOD IS A SIN! YOU ARE INVITED TO FOLLOW MY CHRISTIAN BLOG. http:/steve-finnell.blogspot.com

THE DOCTRINE OF FREE-WILL The teaching that men do not have free-will evolved from the false doctrine that men are saved by grace alone. There is not one place in the Bible that has grace and alone in the same sentence. If in fact men are saved by grace alone and have no free-will, there are many things that would be true. If men have no free-will, then God would have to force men to have faith so they could be saved. If men have no free-will, then God would have to force men to repent. If men have no free-will, then God would have to force men to confess Jesus as the Christ. If men have no free-will, then God would have to force men to be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins. If men have no free-will, then God would be responsible for all of the sins of mankind. If men have no free-will, why did the men on the Day of Pentecost ask "Brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:37) If men have no free-will, then why did the jailer ask Paul and Silas, "What must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30) If men have no free-will, then why did Saul ask, "What shall I do Lord?" (Acts 22:10) Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bring salvation to all men. God's grace is available to all men. Grace is not forced nor is it denied to any man. MEN HAVE FREE-WILL! UNLESS THE FATHER DRAWS HIM John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. What is the meaning of John 6:44? 1. Does it mean only a few, who have been selected by the Father, will be saved? No, it does not. 2. Does it mean that men only respond to the gospel because of irresistible grace? No, it does not. WHO ARE THOSE THAT THE FATHER DRAWS? John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught of God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. The Father draws all who hear and learn. The Father does not force anyone to hear or learn. Men have free-will. God does not impute faith into a few so they will believe and be saved. Faith does not come by injection. HOW DO MEN HEAR AND LEARN? Romans 10:13-14 for "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." 14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? Men need to hear the gospel before they can learn and believe. The Father draws men by the gospel. Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Faith comes from hearing the gospel. Faith does not come because the Father selected a chosen few, before the world began, to be saved. All who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior are the chosen and that includes whoever accepts God's terms for pardon. Faith does not come because of irresistible grace. God the Father draws men to Jesus with the gospel. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, IT IS THE GOSPEL THAT DRAWS MEN TO JESUS! IRRESISTIBLE GRACE IS NOT THE METHOD THAT THE FATHER USES TO DRAW MEN TO JESUS. Romans 10:21 But as for Israel He says, "All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people." Israel as a nation reject the gospel. How would that be possible if irresistible grace were in play? Israel turned away from God. Matthew 23:37 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Jerusalem was unwilling to be drawn to Jesus by believing the gospel. They had a choice. John 5:39-40 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; 40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. The Jews had the opportunity to believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, but they were unwilling. There was no irresistible grace in play. The Father draws all who are willing to believe the gospel. John 6:40 This is the will of My Father, thateveryone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." IF YOU ARE READING THIS BLOG YOU ARE ONE OF THE "EVERYONE" WHO HAS A CHANCE TO BE BELIEVE THE GOSPEL AND BE SAVED. MEN REJECT GOD. GOD DOES NOT REJECT MEN DUE TO NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN. THE FATHER DRAWS MEN TO JESUS THROUGH THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL. MEN ARE NOT DRAWN TO JESUS BECAUSE THEY WERE PRESELECTED FOR SALVATION! THE APOSTLE PAUL, THE SIN EXCUSE? Christians who are opposed to practicing repentance need a proof-text to support their sinful lifestyle. They open the book of Romans, skip a few chapters until they supposedly find the reason they are still practicing the same sins they were before they became a believer in Jesus the Christ. THE PROF-TEXT OF UNREPENTANT CHRISTIANS Romans 7:14-17 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into sin. 15 For what I am doing , I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin dwells in me. The apostle Paul was sold to sin when he was trying to keep the Laws of Moses not when he was living under the grace of God. As a Christian, Paul was not sold into sin. As a Christian, Paul could resist sinning. As a Christian, Paul was not living a sinful lifestyle and then proclaiming the devil made him do it. Paul was not continually fornicating, stealing, practicing idolatry, engaging in homosexual activity, getting drunk, swindling others, murdering on a regular basis, he was not a member of a non-Christian cult like the Masonic Lodge? He was not living a unrepentant sinful lifestyle? WHAT DID PAUL SAY ABOUT CHRISTIANS AND SIN? Romans 7:5-6 For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. 6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin live in it? The apostle Paul did not live a sinful lifestyle. Romans 6:3-7...baptized into Christ Jesus...6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin. The apostle Paul was freed from sin when he was baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of his sins. (Act 22:16 Now why do you delay?Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.) Romans 6:14 For sin shall not be master over you,for you are not under law but under grace. The apostle Paul could not resist sin while he was under the Law of Moses. That was what he was talking about in (Romans 7:14-17). Romans 6:15-16 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? May it never be! 16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? The apostle Paul could resist sin. The man named Saul had a sin problem; because he was living under the Law of Moses. Christians sin by choice, not because the devil made them do it. Is there a way out? Yes! (1 John 8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.) THE QUESTION REMAINS; WHERE WILL THE UNREPENTANT CHRISTIANS SPEND ETERNITY? YOU ARE INVITED TO FOLLOW MY CHRISTIAN BLOG. Google search>>> steve finnell a christian view

What is the difference between receiving the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit?

14 noi 2008 | ora 03.14 Doctrine | Priest Vasile Filat

In this article I want to answer the following question:

I have met with a Christian woman from the church of a different denomination and we begin talking about receiving the Holy Spirit. She was trying to convince me that I must be baptized with the Holy Spirit and she said that when you repent, you are led by the Holy Spirit, He rebukes you, and guides you, but He is not in you. But when you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Is it any difference between receiving the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit, or not?

We find the answer in the book of Acts

Before I answer this question, I suggest the Christian woman that has asked me this question, and all readers who want to study by themselves and find the answer to this question to make the next steps of study:

  1. Read the whole book Acts and note wherever the Holy Spirit is mentioned. You can  follow my example of noting in the International Inductive Study Bible namely, to draw a flame or any other sign you want everywhere the Holy Spirit is mentioned together with the personal pronouns or synonyms that relate to Him.
  2. Make a chart of two columns and in the first column write all that you learn about receiving the Holy Spirit and in the second column all that relates to the filling with the Holy Spirit or being filled with the Holy Spirit.
  3. In the end, write your own conclusions.

People become Christians when they receive the Holy Spirit

Reading the book of Acts I noticed that the word “received” is used to show the cases when someone received the Holy Spirit for the first time and thus became a Christian. This event is called by the Lord Jesus “baptism with the Holy Spirit” and He talked with the apostles about it before he ascended to heaven, when He said:

For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.(Acts 1:5)(NASB)

Also then, referring to the same event that had to happen to the apostles “not many days after”, the Lord Jesus said:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)(NASB)

The Lord Jesus meant the event of the descent of the Holy Spirit on earth that happened on the day of Pentecost and it is described so:

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)(NASB)

Even if it is written that they were filled with the Holy Spirit, the context shows us clearly that that happened to the apostles for the first time and that the Holy Spirit had not lived in anybody of them before, but He came and filled them for the first time at that moment. The same day, when Apostle Peter preached to the crowd gathered because of what had happened, he made reference to the prophets from the Old Testament and He said that then, in the day of Pentecost, God had poured His Spirit on every being and urged all of them to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

People filled the Holy Spirit proclaim the Gospel very boldly

When It refers to courageous Christian actions and especially related to preaching the Gospel in dangerous situations, the Word of God describes those who have preached that they were full with the Holy Spirit. Thus, after the apostles Peter and John had healed the crippled from birth at the gate of the Temple and after that great evangelism had been, when thousand of people believed and repented, the apostles were brought before the Synod, where they talked being “full with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 4:8). After Peter and John had spoken before Synod, they came back to the church that was praying for them, so that the Lord might give them power to proclaim God’s Word with boldness.

And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:31)(NASB)

All Christians described in this passage had received the Holy Spirit long before, but then again they were filled with the Holy Spirit and that was manifested by the way they were preaching the Word of God with boldness, without being intimidated by the enemies of the Gospel.

The filling with the Holy Spirit is visible to people around you

When it was the need in the first church from Jerusalem to choose deacons, the apostles told the whole assembly to choose “seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom”. So, people could recognize those who were full with the Holy Spirit by the way how they behaved day by day and that they were obedient to all teachings of the Lord Jesus and were sharing God’s Word with power and boldness, without fear or being intimidated by anyone. The Scripture relates us details about Stephen, one of these deacons. His filling with the Holy Spirit was manifested by the fact that he preached the Gospel with boldness even to martyrdom.

In the end, I want to tell the Christian woman who asked me that question, that every man receives the Holy Spirit when he enters the New Covenant of the Lord Jesus by faith and repentance. Receiving the Holy Spirit is identical to the baptism with the Holy Spirit and filling with the Holy Spirit takes place when we are not intimidated or defeated by fear, but with boldness we go and do what the Holy Spirit who dwells in us urges us to do. God help us to live in this way.
