What do we celebrate on the Whitsunday?

Question: Can you please explain what we celebrate on the Whitsuntide weekend? I am trying to understand but do not get a full answwer. Thanks in advance!

The celebration of Whitsuntide is known as a Christian holiday, held 50 days after the Easter. It is also known as the Day of Pentecost, when the whole community of believers all around the world commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and the birthday of the Church. The second chapter of the book of Acts gives us the description of this event. To understand better what happened that day, let us see what Lord Jesus spoke about it before His ascension into heaven.

He announced about the descent of the Holy Spirit

40 days after His resurrection, Lord Jesus was with His disciples and told them about the baptism with the Holy Spirit.

“While he was meeting with them, he ordered them, “Don’t leave Jerusalem. Instead, wait for what the Father has promised, about which you heard me speak, because John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit a few days from now.” (Acts 1:4-5)

Then He explained to them how the Holy Spirit would be manifested in their lives:

“But you’ll receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you’ll be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. After saying this, Jesus was taken up while those who had gathered together were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight.”(Acts 1:8-9)
