Summer Vacation is here, what should I do?

Summer is here and summer break is in full swing. Everyone is rejoicing!!! The question is, „What will you do with all of your free time?”. Some are looking for something to do, while others do not want to do anything. If you want things to go well this summer then you need to have something to do, stay busy with something to occupy your time. As always, it is very important to get some much needed rest during your summer vacation but do not go to the extreme as some seem to do. Some people want to rest and relax a little too much and they get to the point where they become lazy. Either they spend hours on end in front of the television or they walk the streets seeking some fun, where they usually find trouble. It has been said, „When a man is not occupied then trouble usually finds him easily.” The Word of God teaches us this same principle, using the example of David, a man after God’s own heart.

David headed toward trouble when he did not have anything to do in his free time. In Second Samuel, a book of the Old Testament, chapter 11 we see the following, ”Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.”. David chose to have some free time when he decided not to go to war. Since he was home with out anything to do the following thing happened, “Now when evening came David arose from his bed and walked around on the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance.”.David had lots of free time, maybe too much because he slept pretty much all day, arising during the evening and just walking around his roof top, probably a little bored. His house, of course, is the tallest in the city. The young lady who was bathing on top of her roof was not doing anything wrong. It was a custom for people to bath on their rooftops in the evening after the water had been heated during the day. Also, no one could see you with the exception of one house; the king’s which was much taller than everyone else’s house. David was tempted and ended up giving into temptation. You know how the story goes, he asked around about the woman who he saw, he found out that she was married, he requested that she come and see him, he slept with her, he tried to cover up his sin, and finally he ended up having an innocent man killed. He confessed his sin, asked for forgiveness, and was forgiven by the Lord. Even though he was forgiven the consequences to his actions remained for the rest of his life. It all began when he did not have anything to do in his free time.

God wants our free time to be useful, doing what He desires. He wants Christians to study His Word and to serve. He teaches us in Ephesians chapter 4 that, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;”. God has given us teachers to teach us His Word so that we can be equipped in order to serve. During this summer vacation you have a wonderful chance to study the Word of God and serve Him as well as others through camps. During camps you will be busy, having an unforgettable time, meeting new friends, learning new things and good things, and of course you will learn life skills from the Word of God. There are many different camps which can be attended, English camps, sports camps, youth camps, and so on. I advise you to go to a camp and you will avoid boredom and trouble all summer long.
