How many times can a believer be baptized?

Question:

Hi pastor, greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I just want to ask you how many times can a believer be baptized, because it’s a question some of my church members ask and I am not sure, but i know it can only happen once. Are there verses in the Bible that I can use to give them the correct answers? Thanks Pastor!

There is only one baptism for every Christian. The Lord Jesus told His disciples:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo,I am with youalways, even tothe end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)(NASB)

In the Epistle to Ephesians it is written:

There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism. (Ephesians 4:5)(NASB)

Baptism is valid only when a person has believed wholeheartedly that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and confessed this with his or her mouth. When they came to some water, the eunuch asked Philip what prevented him from being baptized. Then…

Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” And he ordered thechariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. (Acts 8:37-38)(NASB)

If a person doesn’t believe and does not testify his faith with his mouth, s/he can not be baptized.
