Let us learn common sense3

As we continue our lessons on common sense, this time I would like to focus on a lack of common sense, what it looks like, how it is manifested, and what are the results of not having common sense. Of course, as always with the Word of God, there is hope for those who lack common sense or for those who are seeking to gain common sense. As I have said before, people know that problems exist and how to point them out but usually the solution in not given. It is great that God is not like people and that He tells us the problem and then gives us the solution every time. The wise man Solomon continues in Proverbs 1 like so, “Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square; At the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:”How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing And fools hate knowledge?”Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.”Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention; And you neglected all my counsel And did not want my reproof;I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes,When your dread comes like a storm And your calamity comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.”Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but they will not find me,Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD.”They would not accept my counsel, They spurned all my reproof.”So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way And be satiated with their own devices.”For the waywardness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them. “But he who listens to me shall live securely And will be at ease from the dread of evil.””

In this passage wisdom is personified, as a person seeking friendship with people who have common sense. She is crying out in the streets for people to hear her and respond. Wisdom is the Word of God and the Word of God is always calling out to people to listen so that It can share Its wisdom with you, personally, friend to friend.

1. A man lacking common sense has negative characteristics

One, he is a naïve man. Naïve means that he is not experienced in life, he is easily deceived because of his lack of experience. He is also described as being simple-minded, even though he may have superior studies and diploma after diploma he is still considered simple-minded. Another descriptive word for him is that he is foolish. The funny thing about foolish people is that even if you tell them that they are wrong, and they are proven wrong, they will not accept it. They will fight to the end. This is a description of their character. For example when homosexuals are informed that their lifestyle is dangerous and because of their homosexuality they can expect to live fewer years than heterosexuals they usually do not want to listen, even if you have statistics to prove what you say. That is being foolish, ignoring the facts, and deceiving yourself.

2. A man lacking common sense has negative actions

Because He is naïve and hates knowledge then he refuses wisdom when it is offered to him. I know many people who chose to reject the Word of God for a number of reasons. This shows their lack of common sense because they reject wisdom. Wisdom warns them but they pay no attention, thinking that they are smarter than wisdom, they neglect the counsel that wisdom gives. The root of their problem is that they have no fear of the Lord, meaning that they do not respect the Lord. Are you one of those people who thinks that the Bible is old fashioned? Do you believe that you have more wisdom than God? The way that you answer these questions reveals if you have common sense or not.

3. A man lacking common sense has no future

If you think that you are smarter than God then I am sorry to inform you that you have no future, no matter what you believe or try to in life, the Word says that your future is negative. Here is a list of what you will have to face, beginning with calamity. When tough times come you have no foundation, nothing to fall back on when you do not listen to the counsel to the Word of God. When calamity comes then you face it with dread because of the distress. Once calamity starts since you do not want to come to the Lord for help then you will not have help in that time of need. You will eat the fruit of your own way. Another way to say it is “you have to lie down in the bed that you make”. Because of your lack of wisdom then you will be trapped by your own ignorance. This lifestyle of yours will ultimately lead you to death (earlier than should be). For example homosexuals believe that their lifestyle is ok and that it is just an alternative way of living but in fact statistics prove that homosexuals live many fewer years than heterosexuals. Because of their foolishness they do not want to accept the truth of things. The Bible has been saying this about homosexuals for many years.

4. A man who wants to have common sense will listen to the Lord and follow His advice

Everyone wants to live securely, with no fear and dread, which is possible for those who fear the Lord and obey Him. Following the Lord helps you avoid evil and keeps you from being affected by evil. If you follow the Lord then you will not be deceived by the homosexual lie and you will not fall into their destructive lifestyle.

Wisdom wants you to be a close friend and if you are a person with common sense then you will answer wisdom’s call and follow the advice that is laid out in the Word of God.
