Question:
Is it a sin to cross your legs in church? I ask you because I was told it was not right when I was crossing my legs in the church. I was told that Pilate was sitting that way at the trial of Jesus Christ and, therefore, it is a sin to cross legs.
On the site of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Calgary, Canada it is written:
In some Orthodox cultures, crossing one’s legs is taboo and considered to be very disrespectful.
It is not written in the Bible that Pilate was crossing his legs during the trial of Jesus Christ or that it is a sin to cross one’s legs in Church.
Another person told me that during the divine service, when he was crossing his legs someone approached and told him that in that way he swung Satan. This is not true as well and is wholly unbiblical.
At the same time, the Bible says:
Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil. Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. For the dream comes through much effort and the voice of a fool through many words. (Ecclesiastes 5:1-3)(NASB)
Let us come before God with reverence and not invent laws that go over what is written in Scripture.
