Does God allow the practice of spells and superstitions?

QUESTION:

Is witchcraft allowed? What does the Bible say about the practice of witchcraft?

December and January is the time when many spells, many superstitious acts are performed among the people. Spells to find their partner, to find out who they will marry, spells to know what the harvest will be like, which people usually do on Christmas Eve. I invite you to watch this video in which we will see what the Holy Scriptures teach us about witchcraft:

Witchcraft is an abomination before God

In the book of Deuteronomy it reads:

“When you enter the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, a soothsayer, one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who consults the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and because of these detestable things the Lord your God is going to drive them out before you. You are to be blameless before the Lord your God.  For these nations, which you are going to dispossess, listen to soothsayers and diviners, but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so.” (Deuteronomy 18:9-14 NASB)

I want to draw your attention to a few things: witchcraft and superstitions that are done at Christmas or on other days are called an abomination by God. Whoever does them cannot be pleasing to Him. These practices have a number of consequences. Here we see that the peoples who lived in Canaan were expelled, one of the reasons being the use of these practices. In contrast to all pagan nations, we Christians are urged to follow our God in all things. People who really know God will not choose to practice such things. They will choose to study and research the Word of God, living in the freedom that Scripture gives.

If any of you have used or are thinking of using witchcraft, you must understand that practicing these rituals is no joke. These things are an abomination that upset God.

Those who practice witchcraft will be destroyed by God

The book of Leviticus chapter 20 lists several sexual perversions, but in the middle of them, in verse 6, it says:

“As for the person who turns to mediums and to spiritists, to play the prostitute with them, I will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.” (Leviticus 20:6 NASB)

In this verse the action of the people who go to those who call the dead is called fornication, spiritual adultery. Some believe that they do no harm when it comes to these practices, but God hates it. He will turn His face away from those people, destroying them.

Those who practice divination do so with the power of Satan

In the book of Acts, chapter 16 reads as follows:

It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave woman who had a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing great profit to her masters by fortune-telling.  She followed Paul and us and cried out repeatedly, saying, “These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you a way of salvation.”  Now she continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and he turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out at that very moment. But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was suddenly gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the authorities.(Acts 16:16-19 NASB)

Do you see where this ability to tell fortunes comes from? It is the devil who gives it to them. The handmaid in these verses had an evil spirit and seemed to be telling the truth. She said that these people preached the gospel, but none of God’s servants wanted to receive publicity from Satan. For this reason, Paul did not accept this, but told the spirit to get out of this handmaid, and from that moment she lost her ability to tell fortunes.

Now do you see why God hates all these spells and superstitions? Because those who practice them do so with the power of Satan. They try to work with evil spirits and then wonder why there are serious problems in their lives.

Stay away from these practices

In the Acts of the Apostles, in chapter 19 it says:

And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they added up the prices of the books and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. (Acts 19:19 NASB)

So, people who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ completely turned away from these practices because they understood that God does not accept them. Even though books were much more expensive at the time, they chose to burn them, proving that they had severed all ties to witchcraft. They could sell these books for a lot of money, but they decided to burn them, making sure they wouldn’t be used.

Anyone who hears or is invited to practice such actions must categorically refuse them, because there are evil powers involved.

Those who practice witchcraft will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven

In Revelation it was written thus:

“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to reward each one as his work deserves. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life, and may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral persons, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.(Revelation 22:12-15 NASB)

Sorcerers will not enter the new Jerusalem and will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. If you have ever resorted to these practices, stop.
