\"Verighet\u0103The wedding bands are a sign of the covenant of marriage<\/a>, which is concluded between the husband and his wife before God.<\/span> It is true that people have this superstition that if one loses the ring, his or her marriage is doomed to divorce.<\/span> We have no biblical basis to believe that superstition.<\/span> It is not correct to attribute this superstition to the Orthodox Church just as the necessity of blessing the\u00a0wedding bands.<\/span> On this topic, Peter\u00a0Berbentia writes on his blog the following things about the sanctification of the wedding bands<\/a> :<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 I can say that there is no\u00a0prayer in\u00a0the engagement ceremony\u00a0order\u00a0for blessing the wedding bands, simply because wedding rings are a symbol.<\/em><\/span> Because the ring, circle-shaped, having no beginning and no end, symbolizes the\u00a0trust that\u00a0spouses offer to each\u00a0other.<\/em><\/span> Moreover, there is no such prayer\u00a0in any Orthodox service book.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
