Question:<\/span><\/p>\n How\u00a0do you think women should\u00a0dress\u00a0in the church and outside the church, i.e. how should women\u2019s\u00a0clothing be, according to God\u2019s will?<\/em><\/span> My conscience often rebukes me\u00a0when I see some ladies and young women\u00a0in the church and I do not agree with their clothing.<\/em><\/span> I do not understand why pastors do not address these issues?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n So what does\u00a0the Bible say about women\u2019s clothing?<\/span><\/p>\n Women should\u00a0dress modestly<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n Apostle Paul addressed the subject of women\u2019s clothing and wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,\u00a0but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. <\/span><\/span>(1 Timothy 2:9-10)(NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Because in those days women were much less involved in public life, and they took care of the house, it was\u00a0an opportunity for them to dress nicely when they went to pray, or\u00a0as we say \u201cgo out\u201d.<\/span> Not to turn prayer times into a fashion demonstration competition, the Apostle Paul wrote these teachings to these\u00a0women, showing them that the priority\u00a0was\u00a0the good works and the ministry and to meet the needs of others was\u00a0more important and they should\u00a0not exaggerate in the way they dress, making it a cult.<\/span> How we see, the Apostle Paul did not make rules on what specific\u00a0clothes should women wear or not wear, as some\u00a0tried to do\u00a0over the centuries.<\/span> The Apostle just told women to dress\u00a0decently, i.e. as it was\u00a0acceptable and not to show impropriety or pride.<\/span> And we can not make some strict rules in this regard because what is proper to\u00a0a nation, it is not to another one, and vice versa.<\/span><\/p>\n The adornment of the soul must be a priority<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n As the Apostle Peter wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives,\u00a0as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.\u00a0Your adornment must not be merely external\u2013braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses;\u00a0but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.\u00a0For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands;\u00a0just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear. <\/span><\/span>(1 Peter 3:1-6)(NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Unfortunately, some people focused on this passage just as the one that prohibits the wearing of gold jewelry and it is not a correct interpretation.<\/span> Because otherwise, it seems that women must categorically not braid their hair, and, even more serious,\u00a0not to wear clothes.<\/span> No way, this\u00a0is not a correct interpretation.<\/span> The teaching of\u00a0the contrast used in this passage is that a godly woman will put more value on her inner decoration, and she will have\u00a0a measure in clothing, hairstyle and jewelry, according to what is decent without causing any evil thoughts or wrong opinions neither to men nor to\u00a0women.<\/span> Decorating the inner man must be a priority for all of us, men and women.<\/span><\/p>\n Why pastors do not address this issue?<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n I think that some talk about this\u00a0subject excessively and try to make rules for women what to wear and what not to wear.<\/span> I once heard a lady who taught women in the church very\u00a0strange things on the clothes.<\/span> I was amazed and I realized that she herself\u00a0was taught by someone else like that.<\/span><\/p>\n My opinion is that as the Apostle Paul did not go beyond the written text that I made reference above,\u00a0we, the priests of today should\u00a0not set different rules.<\/span> If there\u00a0are certain cases when someone is dressed immodestly\u00a0to awaken men\u2019s desires, then we must address that person\u00a0particularly.<\/span> But, even then, I think it is better for a woman, not a man\u00a0to talk to her.<\/span> And when we tell our wives\u00a0about clothes, we, men should guide ourselves according to the\u00a0teaching we find in the same First Epistle of Peter, that says:<\/span><\/p>\n You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.<\/span><\/span> (1 Peter 3:7)(NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Let us not\u00a0talk and\u00a0make\u00a0observation to the\u00a0women that just began to come to church, even if they are\u00a0dressed otherwise than we\u2019d like them\u00a0to be, because this way we can make them feel rejected by us and even by God.
