There are many factors that determine\u00a0a human life length and I will pass below a few that are presented in the Bible. This is the question that I want to answer:<\/p>\n

Yesterday night, at the age of 44, a colleague of mine suddenly died while sleeping, but he\u00a0hadn\u2019t\u00a0suffered any illness in the past.<\/em> It is tragic, but God knows best why.<\/em> This made me ask you a question: What determines the length of a man\u2019s life: the sins of his ancestors,\u00a0his organism genetics, his lifestyle,\u00a0personal sins, misfortune, bad luck, etc.?<\/em> For example, some children die at an early age in car accidents and it seems they\u00a0had no\u00a0sin, except those inherited from their\u00a0parents \u2026 In other cases, people who live until 100 years and sometimes, they wish to die because they are\u00a0old.<\/em> What can I say about\u00a0those who commit suicide \u2026 On the one hand, some\u00a0struggle to be\u00a0physically healthy,\u00a0and especially spiritually, but they\u00a0die for various reasons, while others want to die, try to commit suicide, but they don\u2019t manage this \u2026 It is hard to formulate the question, but if you could comment on the matter, it\u00a0would be great.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"human<\/h2>\n

1.<\/span> God\u2019s Judgment <\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Psalm 139 God\u2019s Word says through\u00a0King David:<\/p>\n

Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;\u00a0and in Your book were all written\u00a0the days that were ordained for me,\u00a0when as yet there was not one of them<\/strong>.<\/span> (Psalms 139:16)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

2.<\/span> Obedience to God\u2019s commandments <\/strong><\/h2>\n

This truth is often written in the book of Proverbs of Solomon. He says that his father, David, taught him this\u00a0by divine inspiration:<\/p>\n

My son, do not forget my teaching,\u00a0but let your heart keep my commandments;\u00a0for length of days and years of life\u00a0and peace they will add to you.<\/strong><\/span> (Proverbs 3:1-2)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, obedience to God not only adds days and years to your life,\u00a0it is also\u00a0decisive\u00a0on their quality. Moreover, as the author of the question mentioned, some wish death just because they were not or are not satisfied with their\u00a0life quality.<\/p>\n

In chapter 9 of the book of Proverbs of Solomon wisdom is personified and by her mouth\u00a0God says these words:<\/p>\n

For by me (by wisdom)<\/em> your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. (Proverbs 9:11)(NASB)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

3.<\/span> The years of the wicked are shortened <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Also in the book of Proverbs of Solomon it is written this truth:<\/p>\n

The fear of the LORD prolongs life,\u00a0but the years of the wicked will be shortened<\/strong><\/span> (Proverbs 10:27)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

4. <\/span>The quality of the character and behavior <\/strong><\/h2>\n

It also determines the length of our lives, as written in the following verses:<\/p>\n

A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding,\u00a0but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.<\/strong> A man who is laden with the guilt of human blood\u00a0will be a fugitive until death; let no one support him. <\/span>(Proverbs 28:16-17)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

5. The f<\/span>actor of prayer <\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Bible tells us the following case when God\u00a0added\u00a0days to a man\u2019s life when he asked this\u00a0in his prayer:<\/p>\n

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, \u201cThus says the LORD, \u2018Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.\u2019\u201d\u00a0Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,\u00a0and said, \u201cRemember now, O LORD, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your sight \u201d And Hezekiah wept bitterly.\u00a0Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying,\u00a0\u201dGo and say to Hezekiah, \u2018Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David, \u201cI have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> (Isaiah 38:1-5)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

6. The length of human life determined by the sins of the parents<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When David sinned with Bathsheba and murdered her husband Uriah the Hittite, the prophet Nathan came and announced the punishment that he had from\u00a0God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then David said to Nathan, \u201cI have sinned against the LORD \u201d And Nathan said to David, \u201cThe LORD also has taken away your sin; you shall not die.\u00a0However, because by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you shall surely die.<\/strong>\u201c\u00a0So Nathan went to his house.\u00a0David therefore inquired of God for the child; and David fasted and went and lay all night on the ground.\u00a0The elders of his household stood beside him in order to raise him up from the ground, but he was unwilling and would not eat food with them.\u00a0Then it happened on the seventh day that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, \u201cBehold, while the child was still alive, we spoke to him and he did not listen to our voice. How then can we tell him that the child is dead, since he might do himself harm!\u201d (2 Samuel 12:13-18)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

David\u2019s act caused his child\u2019s life length. Let us think well\u00a0what inheritance we leave our children. Let those\u00a0girls and boys who choose to live in immorality and fornication think\u00a0that they acquire\u00a0an \u201cinheritance\u201d for their children.<\/p>\n

7. The <\/span>Gospel <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Everyone would like to have a longer and a happier life and\u00a0God put eternity in our hearts, the desire to live forever. No matter how long\u00a0our life on this earth would\u00a0be, compared with eternal life that God wants\u00a0to offer us in heaven through faith in Jesus, life here is \u201ca vapor that appears a little and then vanishes\u201d as\u00a0St. James says in the epistle that bears his name.<\/p>\n

Let us\u00a0make eternal life our priority. I know someone who was a minister\u00a0of the church and is overly concerned about the length of his life on this earth and aims to pass the age of 100 years. To accomplish this purpose\u00a0he\u00a0does not eat meat and has put many restrictions. Maybe they do him well, but I am concerned to see that he\u00a0has\u00a0so much interest to these things and does search to\u00a0seek God\u2019s kingdom and His righteousness<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Let us make eternal life our priority and be thankful to\u00a0God for the days He gave us to live on this earth, no matter how little or big their number would be.<\/p>\n
