Seeking something in the Bible, I stopped to look at some interesting verses that\u00a0I could not explain it to me at the moment.<\/em><\/span> These are verses from Proverbs 31:4-7, where it is clear that strong drink would be an useful solution for the poor and embittered\u00a0man.<\/em><\/span> Is it really so?<\/em><\/span> How do you explain those incentives?<\/em><\/span> I think it is important to\u00a0be clarified lest some find justification in these verses for their sinful passions.<\/em><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In the beginning let us look at \u2026<\/span> <\/p>\n

The text in its context<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Which says this:<\/span> <\/p>\n

The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him:\u00a0What, O my son?\u00a0And what, O son of my womb?\u00a0And what, O son of my vows?\u00a0Do not give your strength to women,\u00a0or your ways to that which destroys kings.\u00a0It is not for kings, O Lemuel,\u00a0it is not for kings to drink wine,\u00a0or for rulers to desire strong drink,\u00a0for they will drink and forget what is decreed,\u00a0and pervert the rights of all the afflicted.\u00a0Give strong drink to him who is perishing,\u00a0and wine to him whose life is bitter.\u00a0Let him drink and forget his poverty\u00a0and remember his trouble no more. <\/span><\/span>(Proverbs 31:1-7)(NASB)<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In this text there are\u00a0clear the\u00a0following truths:<\/span> <\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \nThis is the teaching\u00a0that\u00a0the king Lemuel received from his mother.<\/span> <\/li>\n
  2. \nIt is not for kings and rulers (leaders, people who are delegated with public accountability) to drink wine and desire strong drink, because \u2026<\/span> <\/li>\n
  3. \nThose who use strong drink forget the law of God and violate\u00a0the rights of those afflicted.<\/span> <\/li>\n
  4. \nThose who are perishing and whose life is bitter\u00a0drink wine\u00a0and they do this to forget their poverty and not remember their troubles.<\/span>\u00a0So they run away from reality while they are drunk, but they do not actually change the situation for the better\u00a0and the\u00a0danger does not runs from\u00a0them.<\/span> Their solution\u00a0is similar to that of\u00a0the ostrich that hides\u00a0his head in the sand\u00a0when he sees\u00a0the danger, thinking that the danger has passed and it is safe this way.<\/span> Exactly the same effect\u00a0alcoholic beverages have on the embittered and poor men\u00a0who use them.<\/span> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Besides, also\u00a0in the book of Proverbs it is written that wine is:<\/span> <\/p>\n

    The cause for conflicts<\/strong><\/em><\/span> <\/p>\n

    \n

    Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler,\u00a0and whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.<\/span><\/span> (Proverbs 20:1)(NASB)<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    The cause for poverty<\/strong><\/em><\/span> <\/p>\n

    He who loves pleasure will become a poor man;\u00a0he who loves wine and oil will not become rich. <\/span><\/span>(Proverbs 21:17)(NASB)<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    In the New Testament God says to all Christians:<\/span> <\/p>\n

    And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.<\/span><\/span> (Ephesians 5:18)(NASB)<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    God help us to live in holiness and be filled with the Holy Spirit.<\/span> <\/p>\n
