The methods by which Jacob sought to have God\u2019s blessing can not be justified, but still, God says that He loved Jacob and hated Esau.\u00a0Here\u2019s how the book of the prophet Malachi\u00a0starts:<\/p>\n
The oracle of the word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi.\u00a0\u201dI have loved you,\u201d says the LORD But you say, \u201cHow have You loved us?\u201d \u201cWas not Esau Jacob\u2019s brother?\u201d declares the LORD \u201cYet I have loved Jacob;\u00a0but I have hated Esau, and I have made his mountains a desolation and appointed his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>(Malachi 1:1-3)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\nWhy\u00a0has God hated Esau? <\/strong><\/h2>\nBecause he was the first born, and despised God\u2019s blessing \u2026<\/p>\n

When Jacob had cooked stew, Esau came in from the field and he was famished;\u00a0and Esau said to Jacob, \u201cPlease let me have a swallow of that red stuff there, for I am famished.\u201d Therefore his name was called Edom.\u00a0But Jacob said, \u201cFirst sell me your birthright.\u201d\u00a0Esau said, \u201cBehold, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?\u201d\u00a0And Jacob said, \u201cFirst swear to me\u201d; so he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.\u00a0Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Why has God loved Jacob? <\/strong><\/h2>\nPrecisely because all his life, from birth, he\u00a0has struggled to have God\u2019s blessing and he never gave up.He resorted to human methods and he has been helped and encouraged by others, as his mother, but his priority was always to have God\u2019s blessing.<\/p>\n
About God\u2019s punishment <\/strong><\/h2>\nThe fact that he wanted to speed things deceiving his father to bless him instead of Esau\u00a0brought suffering in Jacob\u2019s life.He had to be a fugitive for years, then he was deceived by Laban, who gave him as wife Leah instead of Rachel.Then he had to work\u00a0for Laban for 14 years and returned home with fear in his country.Towards the end of life, when he came to Egypt and met with the Pharaoh\u2026<\/p>\n
So Jacob said to Pharaoh, \u201cThe years of my sojourning are one hundred and thirty; few and unpleasant<\/strong> have been the years of my life, nor have they attained the years that my fathers lived during the days of their sojourning.\u201d (<\/span>Genesis 47:9)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\nThe methods which Jacob used into achieving his goals have affected the quality of his life.\u00a0Yet James was loved by God because he wanted\u00a0so badly\u00a0to have God\u2019s blessing.Is this the priority of your life?<\/p>\n
