The twenty-four elders are in Heaven, before the throne of God and are sitting upon thrones:<\/p>\n

Around the throne\u00a0were\u00a0twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones\u00a0I saw\u00a0twenty-four elders\u00a0<\/strong>sitting<\/strong>, clothed in\u00a0white garments, and\u00a0golden crowns on their heads.

The book of Revelation does not tell us\u00a0distinctly who these 24 elders are, but\u00a0in chapter 21 we learn about the 12 tribes of Israel (the names of the\u00a0patriarchs) and the twelve apostles:<\/p>\n

It had a great and high wall,\u00a0with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names\u00a0were\u00a0written on them, which are\u00a0the names\u00a0of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel<\/strong>.\u00a0There were\u00a0three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west.\u00a0And the wall of the city had\u00a0twelve foundation stones, and on them\u00a0were\u00a0the twelve names of the\u00a0twelve apostles of the Lamb.<\/strong>

In the Gospel of Matthew, we find the confirmation that twelve of them are the twelve apostles. When Jesus was on earth, He told His disciples that when He would sit on the throne of His glory, at\u00a0the renewal of all things, they will sit upon twelve thrones:<\/p>\n
