Why do<\/span> Christians<\/span> find it<\/span> so hard<\/span> to pray<\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When I<\/span> looked up<\/span> to see what<\/span> Scripture<\/span> says<\/span> about prayer<\/span>, I found<\/span> many<\/span> verses<\/span> that speak of<\/span> prayer<\/span> as<\/span> something that<\/span> you should be<\/span> devoted to.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

…rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>(Romans 12:12)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The verb<\/span> to be devoted is in the present tense<\/span> a present that<\/span> indicates a<\/span> continuous<\/span> and active state.<\/span> So<\/span> prayer is<\/span> activity to which we should be devoted<\/span>.<\/span> The more<\/span> you pray<\/span>, the<\/span> more you know<\/span> how to pray<\/span>.<\/span> <\/p>\n

The reasons why<\/span> Christians find it<\/span> so hard<\/span> to pray are varied<\/span>.<\/span> But let’s<\/span> discuss a few<\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They do not know<\/span> how to pray<\/span><\/strong> <\/p>\n

Often<\/span> believers do not<\/span> take “the risk<\/span>“<\/span> to pray<\/span>, because<\/span> they do not know<\/span> how to pray<\/span>, they were not<\/span> taught to<\/span> pray or<\/span> think<\/span> they must have<\/span> some<\/span> special gift<\/span> to pray<\/span>.<\/span> Prayer is<\/span> an appeal<\/span> to God<\/span>.<\/span> I advise you<\/span> to<\/span> study<\/span>, “Lord<\/span>, teach<\/span> me to pray<\/span>.”<\/span> Although it is a<\/span> children’s<\/span> study<\/span> it is<\/span> very practical<\/span> for adults, too.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A spiritual<\/span> problem<\/span><\/strong> <\/p>\n

Often<\/span> if their relationship<\/span> with God is not<\/span> good<\/span>, people<\/span> do not want<\/span> to<\/span> pray.<\/span> People<\/span> in such<\/span> cases,<\/span> say<\/span>:<\/span> “I am<\/span> in a state<\/span> I can not even<\/span> open the<\/span> Bible<\/span>,<\/span> I can not even<\/span> pray<\/span>.”<\/span> Prayer and<\/span> Scripture is<\/span> a form of communication<\/span> with God.<\/span> If this<\/span> communication<\/span> is interrupted<\/span>, we cannot<\/span> talk about<\/span> a relationship.<\/span> In fact<\/span>,<\/span> your attitude<\/span> towards prayer<\/span> shows what<\/span> relationship<\/span> you have with<\/span> God.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fear of<\/span> praying in public<\/span> <\/p>\n

I guess<\/span> the question<\/span> is more about<\/span> praying<\/span> in church.<\/span> Many<\/span> do not pray<\/span> in public<\/span>, because<\/span> they are afraid<\/span>.<\/span> They think<\/span> you must have<\/span> some<\/span> oratorical<\/span> skills<\/span> to pray<\/span> in church,<\/span> but God’s Word<\/span> does not teach<\/span> us this way.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. <\/span><\/span><\/span>So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. (Matthew 6:7-8)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It is important to<\/span> pray<\/span> simply,<\/span> honestly<\/span>, from the heart<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span> not oratoricaly<\/span> to impress.<\/span> It is not right<\/span> to be concerned with what<\/span> others will think<\/span> about me<\/span> when I pray<\/span>.<\/span> This kind of thinking is<\/span> totally wrong<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, <\/span><\/span>and <\/span>pray<\/span><\/span> on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. (Ephesians 6:18-19)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
