First, let us clarify what the great tribulation is. The Bible says a lot about the tribulation in general, but it also says about a great tribulation\u00a0such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. There are a few texts which talk about this great tribulation. Let us search answers to some questions about the great tribulation: who this tribulation will come for, from whom and when. Let us look at\u00a0the texts which tell about the great tribulation and search for answers to these questions.<\/p>\n
At the beginning, let us read the text from Mathew 24:14-30:<\/p>\n
\nThis\u00a0gospel of the kingdom\u00a0shall be preached in the whole\u00a0world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.\u00a0\u201cTherefore when you see the\u00a0abomination of desolation\u00a0which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in\u00a0the holy place\u00a0(let the reader understand),\u00a0then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.Whoever is on\u00a0the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.\u00a0Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.\u00a0But\u00a0woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!\u00a0\u00a0But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.\u00a0For\u00a0then there will be a\u00a0great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Unless those days had been cut short, no\u00a0life would have been saved; but for\u00a0the sake of the\u00a0elect those days will be cut short.\u00a0Then if anyone says to you, \u2018Behold, here is the\u00a0Christ,\u2019 or \u2018There\u00a0He is,\u2019 do not believe\u00a0him.\u00a0For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will\u00a0show great\u00a0signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even\u00a0the\u00a0elect.\u00a0Behold, I have told you in advance.\u00a0So if they say to you, \u2018Behold, He is in the wilderness,\u2019 do not go out,\u00a0or, \u2018Behold, He is in the inner rooms,\u2019 do not believe\u00a0them.\u00a0\u00a0For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the\u00a0coming of the\u00a0Son of Man be.\u00a0Wherever the corpse is, there the\u00a0vultures will gather.\u00a0\u201cBut immediately after the\u00a0tribulation of those days<\/strong>\u00a0the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and\u00a0the stars will fall\u00a0from\u00a0the sky, and the powers of\u00a0the heavens will be shaken.\u00a0And then\u00a0the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see\u00a0the\u00a0Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky\u00a0with power and great glory.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
According to this text, the great tribulation will come for those from Judea and\u00a0at the time of the end, when\u00a0”the\u00a0abomination\u00a0of desolation” will take his seat in the holy place. ”The\u00a0abomination\u00a0of desolation” is the antichrist, who will ”take his seat in the temple of God,\u00a0displaying himself as being God” will arise of\u00a0the Roman people, according to the book of Daniel. From the text, we see that this period of tribulation will begin with the antichrist’s seat in the Temple and will end with the great\u00a0natural calamities and the second coming of the Lord Jesus on the Earth. The texts from book of Daniel and Revelation relate that the saints, i.e. the people of Israel,\u00a0will be given into antichrist’s hand for 3 and a half years:<\/p>\n
\nHe will\u00a0speak\u00a0out against the\u00a0Most High and\u00a0wear down the\u00a0saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make\u00a0alterations in times and in law; and\u00a0<\/strong>they will be given into his hand for … a\u00a0time,\u00a0times, and half a\u00a0<\/strong>time. (<\/strong>Daniel 7:25)<\/p>\n
There was given to him a mouth\u00a0speaking\u00a0arrogant words and blasphemies, and\u00a0authority to act for\u00a0forty-two months was given to him.<\/strong>\u00a0And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle,\u00a0that is,\u00a0those who\u00a0dwell in heaven.\u00a0It was also given to him to\u00a0make war with the\u00a0saints and to overcome them,<\/strong>\u00a0and authority over\u00a0every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. (Revelation 13:5-7)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
The book of Daniel 12:1 specifies that the great tribulation will be exactly in the period when the antichrist will be at Jerusalem:<\/p>\n
\nNow at that time\u00a0Michael, the great prince who stands\u00a0guard\u00a0over the sons of your people, will arise.\u00a0And there will be a\u00a0time of distress\u00a0such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time<\/strong>\u00a0your people, everyone who is found written in the\u00a0book, will be rescued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
If we look at chapter 11 from the book of Daniel, we will see that it is about the time when the last king (the antichrist) ”will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful\u00a0Holy Mountain” i.e. at Jerusalem\u00a0(Daniel 11:45).<\/p>\n
How does the Church report to the great tribulation?<\/h3>\n
Until now we saw that the great tribulation is for the people of Israel. Now the question is: where will the church be in that period? The book of Revelation chapter 7 says that the church is\u00a0standing before the throne in heaven and\u00a0comes out of ”the\u00a0great tribulation”.<\/p>\n
\n\u00a0After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from\u00a0every nation and\u00a0all\u00a0tribes and peoples and tongues,\u00a0standing before the throne and\u00a0before the Lamb, clothed in\u00a0white robes<\/strong>, and\u00a0palm branches\u00a0were\u00a0in their hands;\u00a0and they cry out with a loud voice, saying,\u00a0\u201cSalvation to our God\u00a0who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.\u201d\u00a0And all the angels were standing\u00a0around the throne and\u00a0around\u00a0the elders and the\u00a0four living creatures; and they\u00a0fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,\u00a0saying,\u00a0\u201cAmen,\u00a0blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might,\u00a0be\u00a0to our God forever and ever.\u00a0Amen.\u201d\u00a0Then one of the elders\u00a0answered, saying to me, \u201cThese who are clothed in the\u00a0white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?\u201d\u00a0I\u00a0said to him, \u201cMy lord, you know.\u201d And he said to me, \u201cThese are the ones who come out of the\u00a0great tribulation<\/strong>, and they have\u00a0washed their robes and made them white in the\u00a0blood of the Lamb.\u00a0For this reason, they are\u00a0before the throne of God; and they\u00a0serve Him day and night in His\u00a0temple; and\u00a0He who sits on the throne will spread His\u00a0tabernacle over them.\u00a0They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun\u00a0beat down on them, nor any heat;\u00a0for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their\u00a0shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the\u00a0water of life; and\u00a0God will wipe every tear from their eyes.\u201d (Revelation 7:9-17)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
If you studied the book of Revelation, you know that it presents the events\u00a0in chronological order. Seven\u00a0seals pass first; then seven\u00a0trumpets, and then seven\u00a0<\/strong>bowls. Chapter 6 from the book of Revelation presents the events related to\u00a0the first six seals, but chapter 8 begins with the breaking of the seventh seal. Therefore, the events described in chapter 7 take place after the sixth seal,\u00a0respectively: at the sixth seal the church is already in heaven. The book of Revelation doesn’t say\u00a0how it reached there, there are other texts which tell about this subject. Now the question is, when does the great tribulation begin in relation with the events described in Revelation? From the Gospel of Mathew, we see that the great tribulation begins with the antichrist’s settlement in Jerusalem.\u00a0According to Revelation 11, the antichrist sits in Jerusalem after the sixth trumpet, immediately before the seventh trumpet.<\/p>\n
\n\u00a0When they have finished their (the two witnesses of God)\u00a0testimony,\u00a0the beast that comes up out of theabyss will\u00a0make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.\u00a0And their dead bodies\u00a0will lie\u00a0in the street of the\u00a0great city which\u00a0mystically is called Sodom and\u00a0Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.\u00a0Those from\u00a0the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations\u00a0will\u00a0look at their dead\u00a0bodies for three and a half days, and\u00a0will not permit their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.\u00a0And\u00a0those who dwell on the earth\u00a0will\u00a0rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will\u00a0send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.\u00a0But after the three and a half days,\u00a0the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell upon those who were watching them.\u00a0And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, \u201cCome up here.\u201d Then they\u00a0went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them.\u00a0And in that hour there was a great\u00a0earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell;\u00a0seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and\u00a0gave glory to the\u00a0God of heaven.\u00a0The second\u00a0woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.\u00a0Then the\u00a0seventh angel sounded<\/strong>; and there were\u00a0loud voices in heaven, saying:\u00a0\u201cThe kingdom of the world has become\u00a0the kingdom\u00a0of our Lord and of\u00a0His\u00a0Christ; and\u00a0He will reign forever and ever.\u201d (Revelation 11:7-15)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
We see that before\u00a0the great tribulation begins, the church is already in heaven, before the throne of God and\u00a0of\u00a0His\u00a0Christ!<\/p>\n
I also want to mention that with the great tribulation, which will come upon Israel from the antichrist, will come God’s wrath as well on\u00a0those who dwell on the earth:<\/p>\n
\nThen the\u00a0seventh angel sounded; and there were\u00a0loud voices in heaven, saying,\u00a0\u201cThe kingdom of the world has become\u00a0the kingdom\u00a0of our Lord and of\u00a0His\u00a0Christ; and\u00a0He will reign forever and ever.\u201d\u00a0And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God,\u00a0fell on their faces and worshiped God,\u00a0saying,\u00a0\u201cWe give You thanks,\u00a0O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to\u00a0reign.\u00a0And\u00a0the nations were enraged, and\u00a0Your wrath came<\/strong>, and\u00a0the time\u00a0came\u00a0for the dead to be judged, and\u00a0the time\u00a0to\u00a0reward Your\u00a0bond-servants the prophets and the\u00a0saints and those who fear Your name,\u00a0the small and the great,\u00a0and to destroy those who destroy the earth<\/strong>.\u201d (Revelation 11:15-18)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
The wrath of God will end with those seven\u00a0bowls later; and after that, the Lord Jesus will come:<\/p>\n
\nAnd I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having\u00a0seven plagues, [which are] the last, for in them is finished the wrath of God. (<\/strong>Revelation 15:1)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
I want to mention that at the rapture of the Church, the Lord Jesus will not come to\u00a0the Earth! At the rapture, He is\u00a0is greeted by Church on the clouds of the sky and takes it to heaven, where the ”wedding of the Lamb” will take place; and after that, He will come on the Earth for the second time,\u00a0accompanied by Church then.<\/p>\n
