Help me to clarify some questions\u00a0on the soul\u2019s salvation.<\/em><\/span>\u00a0When is a man born again and\u00a0receives salvation, forgiveness of sins,\u00a0and the Holy Spirit?<\/em><\/span> At repentance\u00a0or at\u00a0baptism?<\/em><\/span> How much\u00a0time should pass\u00a0from the day\u00a0of repentance until\u00a0the\u00a0day of baptism?<\/em><\/span>\u00a0May there <\/em><\/span>be a situation where 10 years have passed after repentance and throughout this period one has attended church and\u00a0has been\u00a0considered a good Christian without receiving baptism?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of how the question was addressed I am glad to see that the author understands that being born again <\/a>and receiving the Holy Spirit occur when receiving forgiveness for sins and salvation.<\/span> Now, the central part of the question is when do\u00a0all these happen? <\/span>On the day of repentance or baptism?<\/span><\/p>\n

One\u00a0is born again<\/a> and receives the Holy Spirit when he\u00a0believes wholeheartedly in the Lord Jesus Christ, when he asks forgiveness for sins he has committed and enters\u00a0the New Covenant by a decision of the heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bible has several cases when\u00a0those who repented, or entered into the covenant with the Saviour, were baptized the same day or night.<\/span> Thus, the same day were baptized those who have repented at Pentecost, the Ethiopian eunuch, jailer of Philippi and his family who believed (they were baptized the same night).<\/span><\/p>\n

All together, the Bible presents situations when the apostles\u00a0hadn\u2019t\u00a0rushed to baptize\u00a0until they were convinced that people understood the significance of baptism.<\/span> When he learned about the problems in the church of Corinth, Apostle Paul wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n

Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.\u00a0For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe\u2019s people, that there are quarrels among you.\u00a0Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, \u201cI am of Paul,\u201d and \u201cI of Apollos,\u201d and \u201cI of Cephas,\u201d and \u201cI of Christ.\u201d\u00a0Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized<\/strong> in the name of Paul?\u00a0I thank God that I baptized<\/strong> none of you except Crispus and Gaius,\u00a0so that no one would say you were baptized<\/strong> in my name.\u00a0Now I did baptize<\/strong> also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized<\/strong> any other.\u00a0For Christ did not send me to baptize<\/strong>, but to preach the gospel not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void. (1 Corinthians 1:10-17)(NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The text shows that Paul was in no hurry to baptize people until\u00a0he was<\/span> convinced that they\u00a0understood the essence of the Gospel and\u00a0received it in the heart.<\/span> Unfortunately, later, different denominations have ceased to follow the Scriptures and sought to baptize as many people without verifying whether those who were baptized\u00a0understood\u00a0and lived the Gospel message.<\/span><\/p>\n
