I\u00a0begin my working day with it and I thank you that regardless the attacks that are made on you, you\u00a0continue to go on.<\/em> God bless you.<\/em> I would like to understand the meaning of the word \u201csalvation\u201d in different contexts of the Bible, when, to whom and to what it refers,\u00a0how many meanings and significance it has.<\/em> As far as I know, one can receive salvation\/eternal life through faith and it is not lost, according to Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 John 5:11-13.<\/em> But in other passages is alluded to the fact that salvation is through\u00a0works and it may be lost.<\/em> Can you help me by\u00a0presenting all the meanings used in the Scripture regarding\u00a0this word, what does it refer to\u00a0and how can I\u00a0differentiate them?<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and the word translated into English\u00a0as \u201csalvation\u201d is the Hebrew \u201cYESHUAH\u201d, which means salvation, deliverance, prosperity or victory.It was a proper name given to men in the Old Testament and it is the name \u201cJesus\u201d in Hebrew.This is how\u00a0His people, Jews, have\u00a0called and call Jesus\u00a0up today.<\/p>\n

In <\/span>Greek <\/strong><\/h2>\n

The New Testament was written in Koine dialect of the Greek language. Thus, the word translated \u201csalvation\u201d into English\u00a0is the Greek word SOTERIA, which means salvation, release, storage, security.<\/p>\n

The context defines the meaning <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Like any other word, the word \u201csalvation\u201d takes its meaning from the context where it\u00a0is used.Thus, Paul refers to the release from prison when he says the following:<\/p>\n

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance<\/strong> through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.<\/span> (Philippians 1:19)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Before writing\u00a0this sentence, the apostle says that some \u2026<\/p>\n

proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.\u00a0<\/span>(Philippians 1:17)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Then, he says that regardless\u00a0those people\u2019s motivation, he rejoices that Jesus Christ is preached and that this thing will turn to his deliverance, that means his rescue or release of the chains, which he confirms a few verses later, writing:<\/p>\n

Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,\u00a0so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again<\/strong>.\u00a0(Philippians 1:25-26)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The most commonly used sense of the word \u201csalvation\u201d <\/strong><\/h2>\n

However,\u00a0the word \u201csalvation\u201d is most often in the Holy Scripture\u00a0meaning\u00a0redemption from eternal destruction and receiving the gift of eternal life.I think that we find the best definition of the word \u201csalvation\u201d\u00a0in the gold verse of the Bible and it is the following:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.\u00a0For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved<\/strong> through Him.\u00a0(John 3:16-17)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to this text, salvation:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • is the ultimate manifestation of God\u2019s love<\/li>\n
  • was only possible through the death of Jesus Christ \u2013 the only Son of God<\/li>\n
  • is given only through faith in Jesus Christ<\/li>\n
  • is given to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ<\/li>\n
  • is deliverance from eternal destruction<\/li>\n
  • is God\u2019s deliverance from judgment<\/li>\n
  • is the gift of eternal life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Works are the evidence of the saving faith <\/strong><\/h2>\n

    No,\u00a0the Bible teaches nowhere that salvation can be received by works.I suppose you thought of the Epistle of James, when you said that in some passages \u201cis alluded to the fact that salvation is through\u00a0works and it may be lost.\u201d No way.Salvation can be received only through faith in Jesus Christ and is manifested in a changed life of a new man who lives according to\u00a0the\u00a0faiths that he witnesses, as James writes:<\/p>\n

    What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?\u00a0If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,\u00a0and one of you says to them, \u201cGo in peace, be warmed and be filled,\u201d and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?\u00a0Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself<\/strong>.\u00a0But someone may well say, \u201cYou have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.\u201d\u00a0You believe that God is one You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.\u00a0But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless<\/strong>?\u00a0Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?\u00a0You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;\u00a0and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, \u201cAND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,\u201d<\/strong> and he was called the friend of God.\u00a0You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.<\/strong> (James 2:14-24)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    According to these verses:<\/p>\n

    • faith that does not manifest itself in works\u00a0is not sufficient for the salvation of someone<\/li>\n
    • faith without works is dead in itself<\/li>\n
    • works are a manifestation and a sign of faith<\/li>\n
    • demons believe in God, but this\u00a0faith does not save them, but conversely makes them shudder<\/li>\n
    • faith without works is useless<\/li>\n
    • the work of Abraham, when he\u00a0brought Isaac to sacrifice him on the altar was an expression of his perfect faith, by which he was and,\u00a0therefore saved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
