<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nTherefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,\u00a0having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.\u00a0See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.\u00a0For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,\u00a0and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority.\u00a0(Colossians 2:6-10)(NASB)<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\nThe danger of being taken captive\u00a0by bad and wrong teachings\u00a0is a reality for everyone.<\/span> Therefore, we are exhorted to guard ourselves, to\u00a0be firmly\u00a0rooted and strengthen in\u00a0the teachings we were given, that are written in the Holy Scriptures.<\/span><\/p>\nStudy the Scriptures<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\nWhen he was in prison in Rome and lived his last days before his execution, Paul wrote to his disciple Timothy thus:<\/span> <\/p>\n\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nYou, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,\u00a0and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.\u00a0All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;\u00a0so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.\u00a0(2 Timothy 3:14-17)(NASB)<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\nCarefully reading the whole\u00a0epistle, it is easy to see that there were many people who came to bring\u00a0false teachings and undermined the truth of the Scriptures.<\/span> Therefore, Paul urges Timothy to continue\u00a0in the Holy Scripture, to study it and to preach it with\u00a0purity, without adding or removing anything from it.<\/span>\u00a0Only so, by studying the Holy\u00a0Scripture one can be a man of God thoroughly equipped for every good work.<\/span> <\/p>\nBut\u00a0I often heard some say: \u201cWe must read heretical books to be able to\u00a0refute their false teaching.\u201d<\/span> I do not think\u00a0this thing is always true, especially when people begin to spend more time studying what they want to fight against than studying the\u00a0Scriptures.<\/span> <\/p>\nThe knowledge of\u00a0the truth protects us from lie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nI read somewhere about an unsurpassed expert in identifying false money.<\/span> When someone came to know his secret he asked: \u201cHow much time do you spend\u00a0studying false money?<\/span>\u00a0The answer was this: \u201cI do not study false money \u2026 I spend more time studying\u00a0real money and when someone brings me false money I can recognize it\u00a0because I\u00a0know well\u00a0how authentic money looks.\u201d This man\u2019s example should teach us something, namely, to study\u00a0the Scriptures to know God\u2019s truth and a good knowledge of the Word of God will guard us against any destructive heresies and false teachings.<\/span> <\/p>\nGuard ourselves\u00a0against\u00a0heresies<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\nIn the\u00a0first century some philosophers, coming\u00a0to Christianity did not leave\u00a0their former doctrines and tried to make a stirring symbiosis of Greek philosophy with the teaching of the New Testament.<\/span> This heresy was called \u201cGnosticism\u201d and it has taken many forms.<\/span> Some of them, called \u201cDoketists\u201d were saying that Lord Jesus did not come\u00a0in the\u00a0flesh,\u00a0but He was only a ghost.<\/span> That is why the Apostle John wrote in his second letter as follows:<\/span> <\/p>\n\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/sup>For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh This is the deceiver and the antichrist.\u00a0Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.\u00a0Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ<\/strong>, does not have God;
