Where did the icons appear from?<\/em><\/span> Shall we worship them?<\/em><\/span> I know that in the Bible it says to not worship the wood carvings.<\/em><\/span> But are they\u00a0holy or not?<\/em><\/span> How to proceed?<\/em><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Previously I wrote the article What is the difference between an idol and an icon?<\/a> and I addressed this topic.<\/span> <\/p>\n

The term \u201cicon\u201d is a Greek word that literally means \u201cimage.\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n

As for the appearance of icons, one thing is certain that they are not mentioned in the New Testament as a practice of the first\u00a0Christians.<\/span>\u00a0None of the apostles\u00a0made any reference to the practice of worshiping the\u00a0icons, or that they would be holy.<\/span> <\/p>\n

It is also worth mentioning that you will not find a description\u00a0of the outer\u00a0portrait of the Lord Jesus in the New Testament.<\/span> Four evangelists being guided\u00a0by the Holy Spirit described in great details the\u00a0person and work of Christ, but did not present His\u00a0outer portrait.<\/span>\u00a0Thus, we do not know what color the eyes or hair of the Lord Jesus were\u00a0or other characteristics.<\/span> The images we see on the icons are very different and they try\u00a0to represent the Lord Jesus just as the painters have imagined.<\/span>\u00a0Why do you think the Holy Spirit did not let to be written in detail about the appearance of Jesus the Holy Scriptures?<\/span> <\/p>\n
