Question:<\/span><\/p>\n Please, give light on the following Bible verses: \u201cA woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.\u00a0But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. <\/em><\/span>(1 Timothy 2:11-12) <\/em><\/span>I require a biblical response and not opinions, because they are divided.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The aim which I have proposed when\u00a0creating this web site was and is to respond to any questions according to what is written in the Bible, not human opinions and not to exceed what is written in God\u2019s Word.<\/span><\/p>\n To better understand these two verses, it is important to look at\u00a0their immediate context.<\/span> The Apostle Paul wrote to his disciple Timothy this epistle\u00a0full of instructions that he might know how to teach people of all categories in the Church.<\/span> Regarding this women he wrote this:<\/p>\n Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,\u00a0but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.\u00a0A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.\u00a0But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.\u00a0For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.\u00a0And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.\u00a0But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. <\/span><\/span>(1 Timothy 2:9-15)(NASB) If we disconsider the entire context of Paul\u2019s first Epistle to Timothy and the whole Bible, only from this passage\u00a0two wrong and dangerous conclusions can be drawn:<\/p>\n We definitely can not accept such an interpretation, therefore, we are going to look at the whole passage in the context of the book, but until then, let us\u00a0emphasize some things that become absolutely clear in the biblical paragraph containing the\u00a0verses that have provoked the question, namely:<\/span><\/p>\n The word translated\u00a0\u201cquietly\u201d is the Greek word\u00a0hesuhia<\/em> and it means peaceful silence, or\u00a0rest, but it is mainly\u00a0used as the opposite of disorder and chaos.<\/span> When he teaches Christians in Thessalonica on the right attitude towards work and towards those who live an undisciplined life,\u00a0that are doing no work at all\u00a0and are acting like busybodies, the Apostle Paul uses the word hesuhia<\/em> and says:<\/span><\/p>\n Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet <\/strong>fashion and eat their own bread.<\/span><\/span> (2 Thessalonians 3:12)(NASB) Obviously he does not tell them\u00a0to work in a total silence, without opening the\u00a0mouth, rather\u00a0he tells them\u00a0not to create indiscipline and clutter.<\/span><\/p>\n Another example is in the Book of Acts, when the Roman captain managed to take\u00a0the Apostle Paul out\u00a0of the hands of the Jews who wanted\u00a0to kill him.<\/span> The verse says:<\/span><\/p>\n When he had given him permission, Paul, standing on the stairs, motioned to the people with his hand; and when there was a great hush<\/strong>, he spoke to them in the Hebrew dialect. <\/span><\/span> (Acts 21:40)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Here the word \u201chush\u201d is used in respect to\u00a0the end of\u00a0the mess and disorder so that they may listen.<\/span> The same meaning it has\u00a0in the following verse where the word hesuhia<\/em> is translated \u201cquiet\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew dialect, they became even more quiet<\/strong>; and he said, <\/span><\/span>(Acts 22:2)(NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Given everything that is written above\u00a0and how the word hesuhia <\/em>was used,<\/em> when the Apostle Paul says: \u201cThe woman must quietly receive instructions\u201d refers to an attitude of moderation, obedience, without creating confusion and disorder and it no way refers to total silence\u00a0which some have tried to impose\u00a0women in the Church.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI do not allow a woman to teach\u201d finds its meaning in this context as well. <\/span>One can not teach others if s\/he\u00a0does not know how to behave properly, to quietly listen\u00a0to those who speak and to submit to the authority that God said.<\/span> This truth applies equally to women and men.<\/span><\/p>\n Another problem that existed in Ephesus, where Timothy was when Paul wrote him the first\u00a0Epistle,\u00a0was the attitude of young widows, who also belonged to the Church and which the Apostle writes thus:<\/span><\/p>\n At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house;
