What are relics?<\/h2>\n

According to www.encyclopedia.com<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

rel\u00b7ic <\/span>\/ \u02c8relik\/ \u2022 n. an object surviving from an earlier time, esp. one of historical or sentimental interest. \u220e\u00a0 a part of a deceased holy person\u2019s body or belongings kept as an object of reverence. \u220e\u00a0 an object, custom, or belief that has survived from an earlier time but is now outmoded: individualized computer programming and time-sharing would become expensive relics.<\/em> \u220e\u00a0 (<\/span>relics<\/span>) all that is left of something: relics of a lost civilization.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Do n<\/span>ot\u00a0touch the bones of a dead person<\/h2>\n

Relics that are\u00a0most venerated by people\u00a0are the bones of saints. A law given to the people of Israel in the Old Testament says:<\/p>\n

Also, anyone who in the open field touches one who has been slain with a sword or who has died naturally, or a human bone<\/strong> or a grave, shall be unclean for seven days.<\/span> (Numbers 19:16)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Joseph asked his bones to\u00a0be brought\u00a0home<\/h2>\n

Joseph was sold by his brothers and became a slave in Egypt. Then, by the grace and guidance of God he became\u00a0the prime minister in Egypt and saved from\u00a0the famine\u00a0that lasted 7 years those\u00a0who were in\u00a0Egypt and his family who came from Canaan. Joseph died in Egypt, but asked that his\u00a0bones would be brought to\u00a0his country.When the people of Israel were freed from the slavery of\u00a0Egypt:<\/p>\n

Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, \u201cGod will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones from here with you.\u201d <\/strong><\/span>(<\/strong>Exodus 13:19)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Joseph\u2019s bones have never become\u00a0an object of worship, but they have\u00a0been buried:<\/p>\n

Now they buried the bones of Joseph<\/strong>, which the sons of Israel brought up from Egypt, at Shechem, in the piece of ground which Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of money; and they became the inheritance of Joseph\u2019s sons.<\/span> (Joshua 24:32)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The miracle of the prophet Elisha\u2019s bones<\/h2>\n

This story is also written in the Old Testament:<\/p>\n

Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year.\u00a0As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet<\/strong>.\u00a0(2 Kings 13:20-21)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even in this case it is not\u00a0reported that someone had removed the bones of Elisha to be used\u00a0for veneration\u00a0and healing.<\/p>\n

The question referred to the biblical approach to this subject, that\u2019s why I will only limit to the biblical texts cited above.\u00a0What does\u00a0the reader know and what does he think in this regard?<\/p>\n
