\"WhatThese days, when I\u00a0had to rebuke\u00a0a teenager for\u00a0his arrogant behavior, he attempted to convince me that it\u00a0was not\u00a0true, that others\u00a0were guilty, that I did\u00a0not understand him, and eventually, he said that he did not understand what\u00a0arrogance was.\u00a0It seemed to me that he\u00a0asked me sincerely and\u00a0he really did not understand, because there had been several cases before it, when I\u00a0 needed to\u00a0talk with other young people about arrogance and they told me to explain what it was and how it was shown. Definition<\/h2>\n

The Free Online Dictionary<\/a> gives the following definition:<\/p>\n

The Hebrew definition<\/h2>\n

The Old Testament was written in Hebrew language and a small portion in Aramaic.\u00a0In Hebrew\u00a0the arrogant is called\u00a0Ga\u2019ayon<\/i> and it\u00a0means proud or haughty.Here\u2019s a\u00a0text where this word is used:<\/p>\n

Be gracious to us, O LORD, be gracious to us,\u00a0for we are greatly filled with contempt.\u00a0Our soul is greatly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease<\/strong>,\u00a0and with the contempt of the proud<\/strong>. <\/span>(Psalm 123:3-4)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, an arrogant man is haughty, at ease and is scoffing\u00a0others with contempt.<\/p>\n

God hates arrogance<\/h2>\n

Even if some people, especially young people, indulge in\u00a0the attitude of\u00a0arrogance and it\u00a0seems to them that only so they distinguish themselves,\u00a0God says that He hates such an attitude.\u00a0Here is the text of the Bible:<\/p>\n

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil;\u00a0pride<\/strong> and arrogance<\/strong> and the evil way\u00a0and the perverted mouth, I hate. (Proverbs 8:13)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Arrogance can become the attitude\u00a0of a nation<\/h2>\n

Even if\u00a0they were the descendants of\u00a0the same\u00a0patriarchs with Israel,\u00a0the people of Moab\u00a0behaved with much pride and arrogance against Israel.\u00a0The\u00a0p<\/span>rophet Isaiah wrote these things about\u00a0Moab:<\/p>\n

We have heard of the pride<\/strong> of Moab, an excessive pride<\/strong>;\u00a0even of his arrogance<\/strong>, pride<\/strong>, and fury<\/strong>;\u00a0His idle boasts<\/strong> are false. (Isaiah 16:6)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Other manifestations of arrogance are excessive pride, fury, haughtiness, and boast.<\/p>\n

An arrogant person\u00a0despises the poor and the wretched<\/h2>\n

In the book of prophet\u00a0Ezekiel, God says\u00a0this about the northern kingdom of Israel:<\/p>\n

Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance<\/strong>, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. (Ezekiel 16:49)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Arrogance is a bad attitude of the heart<\/h2>\n

When He was once\u00a0accused\u00a0that his disciples were eating with unwashed hands, the Lord Jesus rebuked\u00a0those who charged him for their\u00a0hypocrite religion by showing that they were doing all things\u00a0so that\u00a0people might\u00a0see them.<\/p>\n

After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, \u201cListen to Me, all of you, and understand:\u00a0there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man.\u00a0\u201dIf anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.\u201d\u00a0When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable.\u00a0And He said to them, \u201cAre you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him,\u00a0because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?\u201d (Thus He declared all foods clean.)\u00a0And He was saying, \u201cThat which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.\u00a0For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,\u00a0deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride<\/strong> and foolishness.\u00a0All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.\u201d (Mark 7:14-23)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, pride goes together with\u00a0other bad things,\u00a0and arrogance defiles the man and\u00a0affects his whole life and relationships with people and with God.<\/p>\n

Arrogance is the quality of people without God<\/h2>\n

In chapter 1 of the Epistle to\u00a0Romans, the Apostle Paul presents the deprived state of sin in which the world lives and he writes:<\/p>\n

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,\u00a0being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,\u00a0slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful<\/strong>, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents<\/strong>,\u00a0without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;\u00a0and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.\u00a0<\/span>(Romans 1:28-32)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The\u00a0attribute of the religious people (with a form of godliness)<\/h2>\n

In\u00a0the beginning of chapter 3 of the second epistle to Timothy, Apostle Paul writes about\u00a0the\u00a0attributes of those who\u00a0will only claim that\u00a0they are\u00a0Christians\u00a0in the latter days and he says:<\/p>\n

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.\u00a0For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant<\/strong>, revilers, disobedient to parents<\/strong>, ungrateful, unholy,\u00a0unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,\u00a0treacherous, reckless, conceited,<\/strong> lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,\u00a0holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; avoid such men as these. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is also written here to avoid such men, for their arrogance\u00a0can affect us because it is an evil and contagious attribute.<\/p>\n
