How to\u00a0go into\u00a0business without collecting treasures on earth?<\/i>\u00a0I meet Christians and at the question: \u201cHow is your business doing?\u201d, I receive the answer: \u201cI\u2019m not a businessman, I am a Christian!\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I will begin\u00a0with\u00a0the last part of the question. The way some Christians\u00a0answer\u00a0when they are\u00a0asked\u00a0how their business is doing shows that\u00a0they condemn business and they do not admit something common among the Christian life and business. The reasons can be different.\u00a0Some people say and think so because they took the opinions of others whom they consider to be more spiritual, someone confuses love for money with business, and others like\u00a0to appear over-spiritual, and any discussion can turn so that their interlocutor feels nobody besides their so called \u201cspiritual level\u201d.\u00a0Whatever ithe reason of those who say so is, we want to see what God says in the Holy Scriptures:<\/p>\n
What is a business?<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Before we develop the subject, it is necessary to define the Bible\u2019s perspective of what business is.Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians of Ephesus:<\/p>\n
He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need. (Ephesians 4:28)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
According to this passage business is working with your hands on something good that\u00a0brings you material gain, but that is good because it does\u00a0good for\u00a0people.If this harms people, it will be\u00a0a business too, but it will be\u00a0dirty and sinful.According to the same verse,\u00a0some steal and\u00a0of their view this is also a\u00a0business that involves risk and effort, but one that is dirty because it\u00a0brings\u00a0offense,\u00a0suffering and is an abomination before God.<\/p>\n
A Christian can not\u00a0go into a\u00a0dirty and shameful business, nor he\u00a0will live as a drone, but will start and will go into\u00a0a good business, where he will work for his\u00a0own\u00a0and his family\u2019s needs and\u00a0will give to the poor.<\/p>\n
Do not live in\u00a0disarray<\/h3>\n
In the church from Thessaloniki, Apostle Paul had to confront a group of people who claimed to be super-spiritual, and wanting to impress others with how they expected the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, decided not to work anything until the Lord comes.Here\u2019s what Apostle wrote to those Christians who were no longer interested in business:<\/p>\n
Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us.\u00a0For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you,\u00a0nor did we eat anyone\u2019s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you;\u00a0not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example.\u00a0For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.\u00a0For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.\u00a0Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread<\/strong>. But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.\u00a0If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame.\u00a0Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. (2 Thessalonians 3:6-15)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Apostle Paul had a business<\/h3>\n
Of course\u00a0he was not a businessman in the sense that we know\u00a0today, but Apostle Paul\u00a0was a specialist at\u00a0making tents.\u00a0This helped him a lot to gain for his needs and the needs of those who were with him, while\u00a0he was preaching the Gospel.\u00a0Business was never his motivation, but a means of maintaining the ministry of the Gospel when he had no\u00a0help from churches or when\u00a0he\u00a0need to give his disciples an example worthy to follow.<\/p>\n

The wise Solomon said:<\/p>\n

After addressing the\u00a0danger of the\u00a0love of money, Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, who was leading the\u00a0church\u00a0from Ephesus at that time:<\/p>\n
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.\u00a0Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,\u00a0storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. (1 Timothy 6:17-19)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
A Christian businessman will be motivated to\u00a0earn\u00a0honestly in his business and to use his\u00a0gain\u00a0for life, for spreading\u00a0the Gospel through which\u00a0people can receive the gift of eternal life.<\/p>\n
And\u00a0those who\u00a0excuse saying that \u201cChristians are not businessmen\u201d I have seen many times that\u00a0they are lazy, unfruitful\u00a0and do not earn\u00a0to cover their own expenses. Do not be like them, but also do not be caught into the trap of love of money, which enslaves many Christian businessmen.<\/p>\n
