Apostle Paul says: \u201cThrough the\u00a0believing\u00a0husband the unbelieving\u00a0wife is saved and through the believing\u00a0wife\u00a0the unbelieving\u00a0husband is saved.\u201d <\/em><\/span>Would you, please, explain this passage?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Let us look at the whole passage dealing with this topic, to understand the context in which that statement was made by the Apostle Paul.<\/span> The text is found\u00a0in the first Epistle of Paul to\u00a0Corinthians\u00a0and it is written\u00a0this:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

But to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Lord, that the wife should not leave her husband\u00a0(but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife.\u00a0But to the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he must not divorce her.\u00a0And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, she must not send her husband away.\u00a0For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.\u00a0Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace.\u00a0For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? <\/span>(1 Corinthians 7:10-16)(NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The church from Corinth was newly planted and was made up of\u00a0Christians who have recently repented, that\u2019s why Christian women were married with pagan\u00a0men\u00a0and vice versa, Christian men were married\u00a0with unbelieving women.<\/span> In this passage, the Apostle Paul tells these Christians to strive for nurturing their marriage, if the unbeliever accepts\u00a0this thing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remaining in the marriage, the believer will always have the opportunity to communicate to the unbeliever the message of the Gospel\u00a0of salvation and\u00a0show it through his holy living.<\/span> No one can be sanctified except\u00a0through faith in Lord Jesus and through repentance.<\/span> But no one can believe and can not repent until s\/he hears and clearly understands the gospel message. <\/span>There are still many marriages where\u00a0husbands heard and understood the gospel message from his wife who believed and had\u00a0repented the first, and vice versa.<\/span> My wife heard the gospel from me,\u00a0because I\u00a0turned to God before her.<\/span> Shortly after this, she also believed in Jesus, repented and was sanctified.<\/span> In a way, God used me, as her\u00a0husband, to\u00a0her sanctification, as it is written in the Scripture.<\/span><\/p>\n

The same truth applies to children. <\/span>He who has believed in Jesus has to keep his family if the unbeliever accepts\u00a0such as marriage, because in this way children will also be sanctified, having\u00a0the possibility to live in a family where the gospel message will be presented and lived,\u00a0so that they may also\u00a0believe to be saved.<\/span> This thing is much harder and more difficult when the unbeliever refuses to remain in marriage, or persecutes the Christian partner, influencing\u00a0children badly and seeking\u00a0to\u00a0depart them from the faith in God at all costs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the passage ends with the rhetorical questions that\u00a0Paul asks both Christians\u00a0men and women who are married with unbelieving partners and he\u00a0says to them:<\/span><\/p>\n

For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?\u00a0(1 Corinthians 7:10-16)(NASB)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In this way, he wants to show that you can not be sure that living a lifetime of marriage with someone who is not a believer, s\/he will surely repent and return to God.<\/span> This is his personal decision.<\/span><\/p>\n
