In the beginning let us\u00a0look at \u2026<\/p>\n
The biblical text in context<\/h2>\n
The text is a conclusion on an issue addressed by the Lord Jesus in the famous\u00a0Sermon on the mount.For a better understanding, I will quote the full text addressing this subject:<\/p>\n
Do not judge so that you will not be judged.\u00a0For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.\u00a0Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother\u2019s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?\u00a0Or how can you say to your brother, \u2018Let me take the speck out of your eye,\u2019 and behold, the log is in your own eye?\u00a0You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother\u2019s eye.\u00a0Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.<\/strong> (Matthew 7:1-6)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
What does the immediate context tell us?<\/h2>\n
The main subject addressed by the Lord Jesus in this passage is the right and wrong judgment, the emphasis being put on unfair judgment. Usually people take only the first sentence of this biblical paragraph and\u00a0use it\u00a0to argue that any\u00a0judgment is absolutely prohibited by God.\u00a0But it is not so.\u00a0 The whole passage shows that God will judge us by the way how we judge and He wants to be just in our judgments. A right man will judge firstly things in his life and character\u00a0 that do not match with justice, and only then will judge others with the purpose to help and not to condemn them.\u00a0 The example with the speck and the log shows\u00a0that the purpose of judgment is to help man to overcome or to free himself from the\u00a0lacks of his character.\u00a0A hypocritical man, however, will not judge himself, but will close his eyes to the great shortcomings and misdoings\u00a0he commits, but will judge the small things from the characters and lives of others. The next v<\/span>erse\u00a0continues the same\u00a0idea and\u00a0the one\u00a0called hypocritical, is also called\u00a0dog and swine, for he uses the judgment, a holy thing, to trample under\u00a0his feet others and to tear them to pieces.<\/p>\n
Dogs have been offered the chance of salvation<\/h2>\n
In a certain context, the Lord Jesus referred to pagans, calling them\u00a0\u201ddogs\u201d, and that because of the sins and misdoings pagans lived in, not\u00a0seeking the face of God.<\/p>\n
Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon.\u00a0And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, \u201cHave mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.\u201d\u00a0But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, \u201cSend her away, because she keeps shouting at us.\u201d\u00a0But He answered and said, \u201cI was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.\u201d\u00a0But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, \u201cLord, help me!\u201d\u00a0And He answered and said, \u201cIt is not good to take the children\u2019s bread and throw it to the dogs<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0But she said, \u201cYes, Lord; but even the dogs<\/strong> feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters\u2019 table.\u201d\u00a0Then Jesus said to her, \u201cO woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.\u201d And her daughter was healed at once. (Matthew 15:21-28)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The woman did not try to contradict with the Lord Jesus that it would be otherwise, that she would not be derived from \u201cdogs\u201d, i.e pagans but requested healing for her daughter and received it.\u00a0So every\u00a0pagan can receive forgiveness if\u00a0he\u00a0comes to ask it by\u00a0faith of the Lord Jesus.\u00a0But, there are some that like to live in sin, even if they claim to be holy, they\u00a0remain dogs.<\/p>\n
Beware of the bad dogs<\/h2>\n
The wise Solomon said:<\/p>\n
Like a dog that returns to its vomit<\/strong> is a fool who repeats his folly. (Proverbs 26:11)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
So, do not trust a fool holy things, because at any moment he can turn to his folly and then he\u00a0will come to trample you\u00a0under feet and tear you to pieces.Have you not seen such examples?<\/p>\n
When he\u00a0writes with reference to false teachers who were preaching circumcision as a condition for salvation,\u00a0Apostle Paul wrote the Philippians:<\/p>\n
Beware of the dogs,<\/strong> beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision. (Philippians 3:2)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
In this case,the\u00a0holy\u00a0thing which those people\u00a0received\u00a0has been the teaching of the Old Testament to guide them to Christ, but they, in the wickedness of their heart,\u00a0use\u00a0this holy thing to turn against those saved by faith, wanting to\u00a0take them from Christ and\u00a0to trample them under their feet.<\/p>\n
The apostle Peter called some \u201cdogs\u201d\u00a0when he said:<\/p>\n
For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.\u00a0It has happened to them according to the true proverb, \u201cA DOG<\/strong> RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT,\u201d and, \u201cA sow<\/strong>, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.\u201d (2 Peter 2:21-22)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The holy thing they were entrusted with is\u00a0the \u201choly commandment\u201d through which they\u00a0have been discovered \u201cthe\u00a0way of salvation\u201d, but they have trampled this holy thing and now attack the church seeking to tear some\u00a0through some destructive heresies and\u00a0to trample them under feet.<\/p>\n
Beware of such people that\u00a0are called dogs and\u00a0swine and that behave so.<\/p>\n
