This is the question I have recently received\u00a0from a reader of the portal.Let\u2019s see what God teaches us in the Holy Scriptures.<\/p>\n

When they received the\u00a0preaching of the Gospel<\/h2>\n

The Pentecost day, when the Holy Spirit descended on earth and\u00a0the Church was born, the Apostle Peter preached the Gospel to a large crowd of people.The Scripture says about this event:<\/p>\n

So then, those who had received his word <\/strong>were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. (Acts 2:41)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When they believed the Gospel<\/h2>\n

The inhabitants of Samaria were baptized when they believed the\u00a0preaching of Philip.<\/p>\n

But when they believed Philip reaching the good news <\/strong>about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. (Acts 8:12)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When he\u00a0believed\u00a0with\u00a0all his\u00a0heart<\/h2>\n

After he preached the Gospel in Samaria, the\u00a0Spirit of God sent Philip to\u00a0preach to a Ethiopian eunuch, who returned from Jerusalem.\u00a0After he preached him about the Lord Jesus, the Bible says that:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, \u201cLook! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?\u201d\u00a0And Philip said, \u201cIf you believe with all your heart<\/strong>, you may.\u201d And he answered and said, \u201cI believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.\u201d And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. (Acts 8:36-38)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On the same day<\/h2>\n

When the Apostle Peter preached to those gathered in the house of Cornelius the centurion, all those who received\u00a0the\u00a0preaching\u00a0were baptized.\u00a0So, when the apostle Paul came to the city of Philippi preached to\u00a0pious women gathered to pray near\u00a0a river.\u00a0Doctor Luke, the author of the book of Acts was a witness to this event and\u00a0writes this:<\/p>\n

A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.\u00a0And when she and her household had been baptized<\/strong>, she urged us, saying, \u201cIf you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.\u201d And she prevailed upon us. (Acts 16:14-15)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Immediately<\/h2>\n

Also in Philippi, after God\u00a0 delivered the\u00a0diabolic slave through the apostle Paul, her master started a large uprising against the Apostle, so he was sent\u00a0to prison together with Silas.\u00a0Around midnight God\u00a0delivered them in\u00a0a miraculous way, and the jailer,\u00a0when he saw the open doors, wanted to take his life away, but Paul stopped him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas,\u00a0and after he brought them out, he said, \u201cSirs, what must I do to be saved?\u201d\u00a0They said, \u201cBelieve in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.\u201d\u00a0And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house.\u00a0And he took them that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized<\/strong>, he and all his household. (Acts 16:29-33)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In all these cases we had to do with people who were fully aware of their repentance and choice they have made. The apostles baptized almost everyone on the same day or very soon.So, it my seem that there was always so and something does not fit with how things\u00a0are in churches today.Not really.<\/p>\n

Apostle Paul has not baptized in a hurry<\/h2>\n

When he found out\u00a0about the\u00a0big problems of the\u00a0church from Corinth, Paul wrote them:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe\u2019s people, that there are quarrels among you.\u00a0Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, \u201cI am of Paul,\u201d and \u201cI of Apollos,\u201d and \u201cI of Cephas,\u201d and \u201cI of Christ.\u201d\u00a0Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?\u00a0I thank God that I baptized none of you<\/strong> except Crispus and Gaius,\u00a0so that no one would say you were baptized in my name.<\/strong>\u00a0Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other.\u00a0For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void. (1 Corinthians 1:11-17)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of those written by Paul it\u00a0is clear that many in Corinth were baptized by others but him and they were not fully aware of the essence of their baptism, since someone has dared to say that he was baptized in the name of\u00a0the one who officiated his\u00a0baptism and not in the name of Jesus.It means here that Paul\u00a0didn\u2019t hurry to officiate the baptism of those who were\u00a0repented and he did it\u00a0only when he was fully convinced that they realize the\u00a0essence of baptism\u00a0and have sufficient knowledge from the Holy Scriptures. This thing is practiced today in some churches, and is very\u00a0correct and biblical.Moreover, in the church of the first centuries\u00a0were established courses of\u00a0baptism just for those who repented, and only after studying\u00a0this course they were baptized.<\/p>\n

Why\u00a0do some people who consider themselves repented\u00a0put off their baptism?<\/h2>\n

Because they have not believed with all\u00a0their heart. Baptism is the first commandment left for each man to do after entering the covenant with God and if someone fails at\u00a0this first commandment, can not stand upright to others and so he shows people\u00a0and himself or herself that there was no new birth in his or her life. Such cases are not even mentioned on the pages of the New Testament, but conversely, people came and insisted\u00a0to be baptized.The jailer was very aware of the price that he had to pay\u00a0and the problems that\u00a0he could have the next day, but he and his family wanted to be baptized\u00a0that very\u00a0night.<\/p>\n

A divine commandment<\/h2>\n

Baptism is not a human invention or practice of a confession, but is the commandment of the\u00a0Lord Jesus Christ, who said:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And He said to them, \u201cGo into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.\u00a0He who has believed and has been baptized<\/strong> shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, how long\u00a0should a new repented person wait until baptism?<\/h2>\n

The day of repentance or as soon as possible to go to a local church where he or she wants\u00a0to become a member\u00a0and to tell the pastor\u00a0about his or her will to be baptized.Then, to\u00a0ask\u00a0the pastor to register him\/her at the course about baptism\u00a0and to fix\u00a0the date of the baptism.<\/p>\n
