<\/span><\/p>\nDuring atheistic time there were spread a lot of lies about many different religious denominations to discredit them and until today some of those rumors\u00a0still master the minds of people.<\/span>\u00a0In Moldova the Orthodox Church has the largest number of\u00a0Christians, and\u00a0after it\u00a0comes the Baptist Church.<\/span> Because\u00a0they\u00a0live in the same\u00a0society, it\u00a0is important for people to know about each\u00a0other.<\/span> Even more, I noticed that people in Moldova, when they hear about a different religion than the Orthodox one, automatically call all others \u201cBaptists.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0So, what are the similarities and differences between Orthodox Christians and Baptists.<\/span> <\/p>\n The biggest similarity is that Orthodox Christians and Baptists love God, believe in Jesus Christ as the\u00a0Savior of the world and have the foundation or their faith in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.<\/span> Both of them\u00a0believe the teaching about the\u00a0Holy Trinity and the divinity of Jesus Christ (Jehovah\u2019s witnesses do not confess it).<\/span> <\/p>\n The very name \u201cBaptist\u201d shows the major difference between these two Christian denominations.<\/span>\u00a0The word \u201cbaptist\u201d comes from the Greek \u201cbaptizo\u201d and it means baptized by ducking.<\/span>\u00a0Baptist Christians\u00a0do not recognize the baptism of young children, but\u00a0they believe only in the baptism of mature people who have entered the covenant with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span>\u00a0Because\u00a0they are baptized only\u00a0after they believed, they\u00a0were in a way nicknamed by\u00a0others as \u201cbaptists\u201d, that means baptized.<\/span> But, as the reader sees, this nickname or name may be applied to both kind of Christians because and one and\u00a0others are baptized,\u00a0only some are baptized when they are small, while others being\u00a0mature, when they believed.<\/span> <\/p>\n Another difference is the attitude towards the Holy Scriptures.<\/span> Baptists believe that only the\u00a039 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament are\u00a0inspired by God and they have the whole authority in matters of faith.<\/span> They lead themselves only after what it is written in the Bible.<\/span>\u00a0Orthodox Christians accept at the same level as the Holy Scripture the so named Sacred Tradition based on some of apocryphal books (which were not included in the Bible) and the writings of the church fathers. <\/span>Where Sacred Tradition comes in contradiction with the Holy Scriptures, Baptists give priority to the last one.<\/span>\u00a0In fact, Baptists put the greatest emphasis on studying the Holy Scriptures.<\/span>\u00a0Therefore, during the divine services\u00a0the pastor and preachers explain the Bible and\u00a0they gather in church or at homes to study the Bible systematically.<\/span> This is a very beautiful and important thing.<\/span><\/p>\n Another difference is that Baptists do not recognize the cult of icons and worshiping the saints.<\/span> <\/p>\n When\u00a0He was\u00a0sitting with His disciples at the Last Supper, before\u00a0His arrest and crucifixion, the Lord Jesus told them:<\/span> <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.\u00a0By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
