I am 27 years old, I am unmarried and live with my parents.<\/i> I want to ask you about\u00a0the problems that are between my parents.<\/i>\u00a0My father is a violent man and he treats my\u00a0mother with violence.<\/em>\u00a0Today evening, for instance, I came home and I found\u00a0my mother beaten, and my dad was sleeping drunk.<\/i> My heart breaks with pain.<\/i> Tell me what can I do?<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"IfHonor your parents<\/h2>\n

One of the Ten Commandments says:<\/p>\n

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.<\/span> (Exodus 20:12)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Honoring your parents involves the\u00a0care for them and the responsibility to protect them. If the father is violent, it\u00a0is\u00a0the responsibility you have\u00a0as a child to protect your mother from this violence.<\/p>\n

Warn your violent father<\/h2>\n

When you father sobers up, sit next to him and tell him very clearly and decided that\u00a0you do\u00a0not accept\u00a0his behavior towards your mother, and if he continues to behave violently, you will call the police.\u00a0That\u2019s why the police exists, as the Holy Scripture says:<\/p>\n

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities for there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.\u00a0Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.\u00a0For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same;\u00a0for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. <\/strong>(Romans 13:1-4)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The police is the institution\u00a0left by\u00a0God on this earth to coerce and punish evil.\u00a0Therefore, tell your\u00a0father\u00a0that if he continues to\u00a0use\u00a0violence, you\u00a0will call the police.<\/p>\n

Call the police if\u00a0violence is repeated<\/h2>\n

Usually, violent people think that someone is joking when he threatens that he will call the police, especially if it is a child or someone from the family members.<\/p>\n

S<\/span>everal years ago, I lived in another region of the city and there I found out\u00a0that a Christian woman was physically abused by her drunken husband, who was also beating her children, tormenting them\u00a0whole nights.I told the woman to call the police when it happens the next time, but she had great fear, and then I told her\u00a0to call me.\u00a0It\u00a0happened so that on the day when I was ordained, in the\u00a0evening, she\u00a0called me\u00a0and told me that\u00a0they are all beaten by her husband.\u00a0I went to\u00a0their home, I talked with him and I told him to go to sleep and not to be violent, unless, I would\u00a0call the police.He wanted to\u00a0use violence towards me, but seeing that\u00a0he had no success, he\u00a0promised that he would calm down and would not touch any member of his family.\u00a0I\u00a0didn\u2019t manage to get home, and I was called again by that woman, who told me that he started to beat\u00a0them more.\u00a0I ran to\u00a0their home\u00a0to stop the violence and\u00a0I called\u00a0the police, who\u00a0arrived quickly and took him with them.\u00a0He was in prison for 15 days and I do not know what happened there, but after he returned home, a neighbor said he had never\u00a0used physical violence. He was mad at me and he was not talking with me, but once when I needed help, he came to help me and treated me with much respect.<\/p>\n

Sometimes the police do not intervene<\/h2>\n

My father was an extremely violent man and the family had suffered much, and my mother died when she was only\u00a039 years old, as a result of the beatings and tortures she had suffered, leaving 4 children and\u00a0I was the youngest, I was\u00a09 years. When\u00a0my father subjected my mother to severe torture,\u00a0I and my sisters ran to the local policeman many times, calling him to intervene and save my mother and us.\u00a0And what do you think? The policeman came slowly, leisurely.\u00a0My father invited him\u00a0into the cellar, and they were talking a little, drinking a glass with wine and then the\u00a0policeman went and\u00a0my\u00a0father continued to beat us more cruelly, being upset that\u00a0we went to call the policeman.Who could\u00a0protect us\u00a0then? What could I, a child of 9 years, do more then?<\/p>\n

Separate your mother not to be exposed to violence<\/h2>\n

If the police does not intervene, or if after the police has intervened, the father continues to be violent, then\u00a0adult children, or the mother\u2019s brothers have\u00a0the responsibility to separate and protect her from the violence to which\u00a0she is exposed.<\/p>\n

One of my disciples had such a situation. If he saw that there was no solution, and the father didn\u2019t come to his senses, he took his\u00a0mother to live with his family. After a while,\u00a0the father has reviewed\u00a0his attitude, and asked forgiveness from the wife, from\u00a0children and from God.But it is not always so.<\/p>\n

When I grew up, I discovered that my elder sister was\u00a0physically abused by her husband. I went and talked with\u00a0my brother-in-law and asked him to stop the fighting.\u00a0If I saw that\u00a0he did not\u00a0want to\u00a0listen, I came and I took\u00a0my sister who lived with us for a while, together with her\u00a0little child, then I helped her to be able to live separately.<\/p>\n

Do not\u00a0use violence<\/h2>\n

When I was 4 or 5, I once saw as\u00a0my father was strangling\u00a0my mother who was all covered with blood. Because the father could not see me, I took a metal object and I snack to hit him in the head.\u00a0Suddenly, he turned to me and I was so afraid that\u00a0I threw the object and ran. The great miracle was that\u00a0my father was so drunk that he forgot, or never understood what I was going\u00a0to do, because if he had\u00a0understood, I would be killed. I always thank God that He protected me\u00a0from such a\u00a0great crime.And I\u00a0write this because I know about many children who hated\u00a0their father so much that they\u00a0used violence against him.This is a great evil and God\u00a0protect you from it. God says in the Holy Scripture:<\/p>\n

The eye that mocks a father\u00a0and scorns a mother,\u00a0the ravens of the valley will pick it out,\u00a0and the young eagles will eat it.\u00a0(P<\/span>roverbs 30:17)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you use violence towards\u00a0you father, then it means you are not better than him.<\/p>\n

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.<\/span> (Romans 12:21)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
