What happens when a believer is cursed?\u00a0And<\/em> if the one who cursed him is one of his relatives, but this relative is not a believer?<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
There is<\/span>\u00a0a lot of superstition and deception on the curse\u00a0among people.\u00a0The absolute truth about spiritual things is found in the Bible, that\u00a0is God\u2019s Word. Therefore, we want to see what the Bible says on this subject.<\/p>\n
Unfounded curse has no power<\/h2>\n
God says in His Word so:<\/p>\n
Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,\u00a0so a curse without cause does not alight. (Proverbs 26:2)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
This truth applies equally both to those who believe in the Lord Jesus and to unbelievers.\u00a0Even yesterday talking with a former colleague of mine from the University, she\u00a0said me that her chief, anytime she had\u00a0a conflict with a worker, she sent the secretary or someone to light candles at church and ask God to curse that certain\u00a0person. The former university colleague\u00a0told me that nothing had\u00a0happened to people whom that chief\u00a0sought to curse, but her daughter was in a car accident twice last winter and accidents were very serious.<\/p>\n
The curse of Jotham<\/h2>\n
Regardless of whether she or he\u00a0is a relative or not, we must\u00a0see every man as our neighbor, that we are called to love\u00a0as ourselves.If a family curse is unfounded, stay\u00a0calmly because you will not be affected, but if it has reasons, hurry to get back with God and with your\u00a0relative or anyone that man is.<\/p>\n
Gideon was the judge who delivered Israel from the people of Midian.\u00a0Gideon had seventy children of his, as he had several wives.One of these sons was Abimelech, who went to the people of Shechem\u00a0after\u00a0the\u00a0death of\u00a0his father,\u00a0and asked their support, then he came and killed all his brothers, only Jotham\u00a0escaped alive.\u00a0When the people of Sechem came to him to make Abimelech their king,\u00a0Jotham also came, stood on the Mount Gerizim, at a certain\u00a0distance, and said this curse:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Now therefore, if you have dealt in truth and integrity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal (Gideon)\u00a0and his house, and have dealt with him as he deserved\u2013\u00a0for my father fought for you and risked his life and delivered you from the hand of Midian;\u00a0but you have risen against my father\u2019s house today and have killed his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your relative\u2013\u00a0if then you have dealt in truth and integrity with Jerubbaal and his house this day, rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.\u00a0But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech and consume the men of Shechem and Beth-millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem and from Beth-millo, and consume Abimelech.\u201d (Judges 9:16-20)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Just in three years, God fulfilled\u00a0this curse of Jotham and He even made the punishment by fire be\u00a0applied. The people of Sechem were rebellious against Abimelech who defeated them in battle and then came and set fire to their city. From there, Abimelech went to Thebez, where\u00a0he died, being hit by a stone that was thrown by a woman at the entrance\u00a0of the tower. At the end of chapter 9 of the book of Judges God says:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Thus God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech, which he had done to his father in killing his seventy brothers.\u00a0Also God returned all the wickedness of the men of Shechem on their heads, and the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal came upon them.\u00a0(Judges 9:56-57)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Jotham was Abimelech\u2019s brother, but\u00a0his curse was\u00a0fulfilled because it was founded.<\/p>\n
Do not curse anyone<\/h2>\n
The Lord Jesus teaches us in the famous sermon on the mountain not to curse anyone:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You have heard that it was said, \u2018YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.\u2019\u00a0But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,\u00a0so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.\u00a0For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?\u00a0If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?\u00a0Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (The Gospel of Matthew 5:43-48)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Apostle Paul also wrote in the Epistle to the Romans:<\/p>\n
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. (Romans 12:14)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
God guard us from curse and\u00a0keep us\u00a0in His blessings always.<\/p>\n
