“Why did Jesus entrust His mother to John and not to His brothers?”<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When I received this question, I thought a lot about how to answer it, I also made an outline of the answer with points. But now, before I began writing this article, I prayed once more to the Lord and asked Him for guidance in writing this article, and I received one argument: John was with His mother when she was grieving the loss of her Son!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother\u2019s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, \u201cWoman, behold, your son!\u201d Then He said to the disciple, \u201cBehold, your mother!\u201d From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.\u201d (John 19:25-27 NASB)<\/span><\/p>\n

First, we see that the Lord Jesus entrusted her when he saw her at the cross, He saw the pain she had for Him. His fleshly brethren were not present there. Had he wanted to entrust her to His brethren, he could not have done so. Why did he entrust her to John? Because he saw him next to her: “And next to her was the disciple whom she loved.” I believe that Jesus knew that no one would take better care of His mother than John, who stood by her, understanding her motherly pain, when all the others were overwhelmed with fear for their fate: nowhere do we find it written in The Bible that there was another of the twelve disciples near the place where the Lord Jesus was crucified, not even Peter, who, after the arrest of the Lord Jesus, followed Him to the court of the High Priest. It seems that John had a special heart that felt the pain of others. He had a good heart. We Moldovans are used to saying about such people that they have a heart like warm bread. It is good to receive all things gently, as from the hand of the Lord, but at the same time we must feel for each other and be with those who are in pain to comfort them with our presence, showing that we care about them. John could not change anything, but he sought to comfort the mother of the Lord Jesus by his presence with her, showing that he understood and cared!<\/span><\/p>\n
