In this article, I want to answer the question I have been asked for. “Why is Satan in the Bible written with capital letter if this Greek word means a traitor?” I want to tell you that the New Testament was written in Greek, but in the Greek text are not minuscule and capital letters. There are not even spaces between words, so the name of Satan or devil is neither written with minuscule nor with capital letters. In Romanian we can find this capital letter, because it is a proper name. This is a grammatical rule and this name Satan refers to a concrete person, that is why it is written with capital letters. The name Satan doesn\u2019t mean a traitor<\/h2>\n

In fact, the name Satan does not mean traitor, but accuser and adversary. The book of Job shows best the character of Satan. It is best to show the character of Satan the Book of Job, in which it is written that there was a man called Job in the land of Uz, and this man was blameless and upright. He feared God and turned away from evil. Seven sons and three daughters were born to him. Then, all his possessions are listed, but here comes the verse 6:<\/p>\n

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. The LORD said to Satan, \u201cFrom where do you come?\u201d Then Satan answered the LORD and said, \u201cFrom roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.\u201d The LORD said to Satan, \u201cHave you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil. ” (Job 1:6-8)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Satan\"<\/a><\/h2>\n

Satan manifests himself as accuser and adversary<\/h2>\n

Then Satan answered the LORD, \u201cDoes Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face. ” (Job 1:9-11)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here we see that Satan has positioned himself as an adversary and accuser of Job. He accuses Job and says that he serves and is righteous to the Lord only for material reasons, and as you know, God has allowed Satan to touch all that Job has. So one day he lost everything he had:<\/p>\n

Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said,\u201cNaked I came from my mother\u2019s womb, and naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.\u201d Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God. (Job 1:21-22)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As you can see, not the material interest made Job to be a righteous man. He loved God. So we see that he did not succeed to Satan with this accusation, because he is an adversary, an enemy, an enemy of Job, and wants his destruction and death.<\/p>\n

Satan is the accuser of the person<\/h2>\n

And then Satan comes with a new accusation:<\/p>\n

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD. The LORD said to Satan, \u201cWhere have you come from?\u201d Then Satan answered the LORD and said, \u201cFrom roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.\u201d The LORD said to Satan, \u201cHave you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.\u201d Satan answered the LORD and said, \u201cSkin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. However, put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face.\u201d(Job 2:1-5)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You see, Satan always acts according to his character and now again accuses Job. Where he could praise the most righteous man, he seeks reasons to accuse him. He urges God to lose both Job and you without cause. Here we see that Job had no cause, but do you give Satan a reason for God to lose you?<\/p>\n

Satan is the adversary of your soul<\/h2>\n

So the LORD said to Satan, \u201cBehold, he is in your power, only spare his life.\u201d Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes. Then his wife said to him, \u201cDo you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!\u201d But he said to her, \u201cYou speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?\u201d In all this Job did not sin with his lips. (Iov 2:6-10)(NASB)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

All I wanted to show you in these verses is that Satan is the adversary of your soul, and he wants your death at all costs. Once, when Jesus spoke to Peter, he said, ” Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has [d]demanded permission to sift you like wheat.” So he wants the destruction of everyone.<\/p>\n

If you do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and if you have not chosen to be His disciple, there is no chance for you to come out victorious in the struggle with Satan. Thus, he will lead your soul to perdition. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart. Choose to be His disciple, because only so you will be able to overcome sin and Satan, inheriting the kingdom of God.<\/p>\n
